I think that in order to empower woen in politics, they should be given equity and equaliy in every aspects like education, information, resources and opportunities. Women should not only be mobilized but should be represented in the decision making level from small familial, community to national and global level. I agree that involving females from the youth stage in the leadership and decision making level.

Before now, there has not much been heard about women going into politics in the world.bt recently.has much of the MDGs is been pronounced from the Northpole to the Southpole, women has now taken it has a big work to thread their paths in the line of politics-maybe they could do better for their society and communities.Despite the fact that we've been seeing some improvement in women participation in politics,it must be noted that Africa as a continent, hasnt seen much impart felt from their women leaders;only few like Ellen Sirleaf of Liberia,Okonjo Nweala of Nigeria(former finance Minister of Nigeria) and a list of others.By and large, their courage should be greeted with accolades, because moving the people of Africa and creating a change might be a little complex, because so much is involved, from human capital development, poverty eradication, provision of basic ammenities and a whole lot.If men can do it,they should be able to pull the change in Africa and the world. How soon is the only question?

Good discussions people.
I live in Yukon, Canada, and feel that gender is a big reason why women have been suppressed by the male dominant. I read an article recently that suggested that by eliminating gender, being male/female, people will be more free to be who THEY choose to be. We would then start to see each other as people first, not a boy or girl wrapped in blue or pink. It was interesting.
In several rural, northern communities, I feel that women have been the one`s to keep the community together and healthy. And let`s be frank, how well do we know the other gender? Have we thought what their experiences have been? Or how we are a part of their experiences?
It is cool to hear the different idea`s of how we can strive to empower women, who have so much potential to do great things, and to increase women`s participation in politics. It starts with equality, and celebrating our similarities and differences as people.

i also notice there are a lot of men on this discussion board. That`s interesting to me, and has challenged me to think about how I am supporting the empowerment of women off of TIG as well! ...cuz talk without action does no good. no good at all.
Power to the People.

Women should be empowered in politics but unfortunately there are a lot of people out there who think they shouldn't. I had a debate with a guy at my school (American, 17) who said that women shouldn't be constitutionally allowed to become President, because men are naturally leaders.
...and he's from a developed country!
There are viewpoints like this all over the world, stemming from culture, religion, natural bias.
But there are countries in the world where women have been empowered =D The Philippines has a female president right now, Spain has more female Cabinet members than male cabinet members (Western Europe in general has almost equal female representation).

I know well this discussion is all about women. But keep in mind, women should get the ultimate support of men, without men, they don't get their desired vision. The issue of women empowerment aged about less then one century. they're being going to be endangered themselves, "women empowered' I believe, it is beyond a great danger against women, this was proposed by a group of men, who have a special interest for this issue, but trying to picture women they are looking for their rights and interest. What I kind say, women should be given clear contribution and themselves bring their own interest.

Women need to be encouraged in order for them to be empowered.... even in the most developed countries, women are not encouraged talkless of developing nations and as long as we are moving forward towards fiplomacy in every country and continent, women need to have empowerment, and this is not easy but it is surely possible.....EDUCATION is the key to empowerment!

Yes Teema, i agree with what you just said but tell me:who are they waiting to empower them. The world already has about 3 women Presidents , Gloria Arroyo, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf and Fernandes. And the lovely Angela Merkel.
These great women should be enough inspiration for everybody(though i don't agree with some of the things they are doing).
Ask yourself: HOW HAVE WOMEN FARED IN COUNTRIES WITH FEMALE HEAD OF STATES?
I support women rights also,anyway.

Women empowerment became a great major topic across the world in the past five years. It is the one of the greatest visions of Millennium goals. My question here is why this issue has been propagated? Why we do not hear men empowerment?
I hope gender equality has been outraged, because, it is mainly talk about women empowerment? How many men do really require to be empowered, get self-sufficient to cope with these global, regional, nation problems, that women could not have capability to do something?

I HUMBLY SUPPORT WOMEN EMPOWERMENT,...
I HOPE IT DOES NOT MEAN THAT, WHEN A MAN GET 29 POINTS AND THE WOMAN GETS 28 POINTS IT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO THE WOMAN!!!!!!!!
THIS GENDER ISSUES ARE GOOD, IT BECOMES BAD ONLY WHEN POLICY MEANS TO CHEAT THE OTHER FOR THE SAKE OF GIVEN THE OTHER A CHANCE.....
FINALLY SOME WOMEN TEND TO SUFFER WHY BECAUSE OF GENDER ISSUES. HOW?
THE PERSON TO HANDOVER TO THE WOMAN OR SELECTION PROCESS IS A MAN SO KINDLY... THINK THERE IS NOTHING FREE IN THIS WORLD........... ) YOU ARE THERE

I agree that women should get involved in politics from a young age. Through education and experience in this male-dominated field, we canensure that other women are well represented when it comes to politics-related disciplines.

Women have the future of humanity within their power. Unfortunately until women in non developed countries have control of their fertility with rights to determine how many children they will have we are doomed to early extinction .Studies and research indicates that like all species that breed to plaque proportions we have grossly overpopulated this planet and we must aim to radically reduce the world's current population to a sustainable 2.3 billion, not the current 6.6 billion. Our future rests with women controlling reproduction.
