What Do You Think About Pakistani Court Sending Same-Sex Couple to Jail?

A Pakistani court has sent a couple to jail for entering into wedlock because the "husband" is a woman. The union was ruled a "same sex marriage," which is a criminal offense in Pakistan. Judge Khwaja Mohammad Sharif at Lahore High Court said in his ruling Tuesday, "It's an illegal and un-Islamic marriage which is not sustainable under the law."
The couple, Shamail Raj and Shehzina Tariq, married last September. However, the bride's father filed a case against the husband suspecting him of being a woman and lead to the arrest of the couple last Saturday.
The 31-year-old Raj had undergone two sex change operations 16 years ago which removed her breast and uterus. But the doctors who examined her told the court that he still remains a woman. Later, Raj told reporters that he had intended to undergo one more surgery abroad in order to become fully a man.
Shehzina, 24 said she married Shamail to avoid a forced marriage with another man that her father had planned for money. She also said she was aware of the physical condition of Shamail even before marriage. Raj also claimed she married her cousin to "protect" her.
The judge asked the couple during hearing, "Why should a case be not registered against you for committing an unnatural offense and telling a lie?" The court will decide the sentence on Saturday. Reports said if the couple is tried for homosexuality, they may face life in prison.

The Situation is somewhat similar in India also.....Secton 377 of IPC which has been opposed from a long time still exist. according to Section 377 even in a traditional heterosexual context within marriage anal or oral sex is `against the order of nature', according to Section 377. So one can well understand that how this law is been used for same sex couples. the section is used primarily to harass and extort money by police from those who do not fit into conservative sexual roles, primarily gay men, hijras, kothis and men who have sex with men (MSM).

this is the real probelm, forced marriages, against the women rights, so if one want to cure the problem (Why one needs to marry a girl in a culture, society where it is very very much rare), he has to fight the original cause.

Bravo Pakistani court, the same will happen to any folk trying to do those things in Nigeria.
Well God created two different sex for a clear purpose expressly known by all unless you want be against, and if it is not real, let us wipe the "M" or "F" and see how it will work .

my dear friend only god knows for what purpose this whole gender and sex division are made in this world...but one thing i would like to quote here is that god has also give us the intellect to choose what is right or what is wrong for us....and any ways courts can't and should not play the role of God. what two person are doing is none of the business of any body in this world as long as it is not harming other....

What kind of God would want people to be punished just because they want to live together, or even give each other orgasms? We are all Earthlings on a small planet, trying to survive and be happy. Why punish people who are just trying to announce to the world, "We love each other, we want to care for each other, we want to make each other happy, we want to marry"? Why must religious people be so cruel? Just imagine for one second (I dare you), what if your God is just a delusion? What if he doesn't really exist? You are killing perfectly good people, who are harming no one, for nothing...

i dont think both the examples [wedding a monkey] are comparable. it is Allah/God who will decide what is sin and what is not and its only him who can decide what is punishable and what is not....
why do we need to interfare in his paradigm. as i said earlier god has given us wisdom to distinguish between right and wrong....
any ways laws are men made and not by God...if the laws are so perfect, then why there are so atrocities in this whole world....

I dont believe that God would want his people to be unhappy. I'm all for same sex marriages if that is what makes you happy.
It's funny that our world forgets the anicent romans who had days dedicated to homosexual sex in the streets. Holidays they were actually! Egyptians did it too. Why is it that we still cant accept what makes people happy? You should not judge them for being different. There are people who cause pain to others to be happy (sadists), people who like others to dress up as animals to be happy (furries), so is it really worse to say that same sex marriages should not happen?
In the US, people are still not legally allowed to marry in most states if not all. I think it is rediculous, because they're not hurting anyone, but those who try to stop people wanting to marry are hurting the people who arent allowed to marry by keeping them from taking their love and declaring it legally and in front of god.

What it comes down to in the end, in my opinion, is a governments responsibility to ensure the safety and security of its citizens. No government should dictate or impose religious morals and values upon its citizenry nor should a government imprison or abuse its people for living a lifestyle that may not be acceptable by the majority.
Many people forget that people who choose to live alternate lifestyles in their countries are still citizens, and should be entitled to same rights and security as themselves.

I believe that even if any one of us has difference of openion or different preferences which is against the majority or so called normality.....still they are human beings they should be treated equally by law and by other people, they should be respected with dignity.

Did the monkey give verbal consent? Besides, sex with something non-sentient would be little more than glorified masturbation with the added risk of acquiring really novel STDs.
Back on topic, what other consenting adults do to eachother in private is none of my business. Furthermore, jailing them is just silly. Will jail time make them any less homosexual? Will it make other people think twice before being born with the brain wiring of the opposite sex and finding themselves as homosexuals? *Bangs head against keyboard*
