Seriously though, at least they have some somewhat decent 'healthy' choices here in Canada. I *love* the Veggie Burger, and the Chicken Fajitas they have now are pretty good.

At least they cook the veggie burgers fresh because they're ordered so rarely... hamburger patties setting in their own 'juice' for up to 15 minutes before being thrown out? Nahhhhot for me. It's been a few years now!

Anyways mfurdyk... I am a McDonald's employee and I actually happened upon this thread while searching for scholarship opportunities at McDonald's. The point of this post is to educate you in the ways of the kitchen staff at McDonald's. You seem to think that the veggie burger is fresh because it is ordered to rarely.. not the case. If you wander into McDonald's and order a veggie burger, chances are you're getting a piece of 2-3 hour [maybe more] old soy meat. You see, when someone orders a veggie burger and there is no veggie meat in the cabinet [where the cooked product is kept], Joe Employee thinks to himself "hey, I could make one piece of veggie meat now and server it nice and fresh... or i could make three pieces of veggie meat now and serve one nice and fresh.. and leave the others in the cabinet until some pathetic guy comes in expecting to order a fresh burger and instead gets my lazy ass day old soy product." Of course Joe takes the second route.

PS if it weren't for the condiments, the veggie burger would taste as it smells... like dirt

Enjoy your next veggie burger,
joe employee

Scott- I've heard that even veggieburgers aren't safe for vegetarians. Rumor has it they're often cooked on the same grill as the meat, so they get a lot of meat juices... do you know if this is true?

I personally haven't eaten at McDonald's in years. This is probably mostly because I'm a vegetarian, but from a nutritional standpoint, the food is just trash, and I don't feel good about the possible consequences of eating it. I'm a convert to the "fast-casual" dining experience. I don't eat at places like McDonalds or Burger King or Wendy's or Taco Bell...I prefer places where the food is served quickly, but is better prepared and healthier, as is the atmosphere. I don't know how widespread any of these chains are... Panera and Qdoba are reasonably large; Jimmy Johns and Noodles, my two favorites, are more local.

McDonalds is on the way out. Sure, they might stay for 10 years or so, but they will never get as many customers as they once did. And as for Boston Market ???? Personally, i thinks its crap. (Excuse the word, but its TRUE!) I think that they may need a MAJOR revitalisation to succeed.

Peace
Besty

I've gotta agree with Mike on this one, I'm just glad that McDonald's is bringing out some more healthy food. I stopped eating there a few years ago because I always felt a little sick after eating there, but now I may just go back.

We've got to focus on the positive impact we _can_ make. McDonald's has thousands of restaurants around the world. If they make more and more responsible decisions that are good for people, not only are we getting rid of a "bad" thing but we are also leveraging their immense power for the good. Think of the amazing health benefits if people kept eating at McDonald's as much as they do today, but McDonald's kept on improving the quality of their food!

We certainly have the power to do this. It is consumer pressure that has caused them to introduce healthy choices in the first place.

I used to eat their food once a week. Now I eat it maybe once or twice a month. The main thing you should do is just tune out of the things that tempt you and ignore them. However, I would not recommend a complete boycott of the food -- eat it once every so often, to get rid of some temptation, you know...

mcdonalds is a very great place to eat at becasue it has very great tasting food but they use too much oil in thier food. And they have meat in almost all thier food, but i don't care, i know they're not healthy but they taste good! but you shouldn't eat them every day or something like that because then you can get many unhealthy things like cholestrol. maybe like twice a month or three times a month is ok...thats what i do.

Of course McDonald's food sucks. I do not know what people expect when you spend $5 and get a burger and fries and a drink. I do not understand why you would expect high quality meat, excuse me, high quality food. Also, with the $5 an hour the employees make what would lead you to assume that they will give you exemplary service. You should just hope that their business is not slow on a day that you decide to get some food, otherwise you could end up eating a 6 hour old peice of grade F meat.
Which by the way it is a fact that most fast food joints like McDonald's and Taco Bell use a grade F meat, while most dog food are made with grade D. I think that you all need to make up your minds. Either you like eating their food, or you don't. You cannot have both. I think that if you say to yourself I hate McDonalds food and yet you still eat there, then obviously you are lying to yourself.

i don't think that mc donalds is as bad as some of you say.
im not a big fan of mc donalds but from time to time i go there because it tastes quiete good and you can buy only a burger and don't have to take something to drink (that is often really expensive) like in a normal restaurant. but i think the food there is very expensive. for example you have to pay 2,50 euros for a mc chicken in austria. last year i was in hawaii and there i noticed that you get a the same for 1 dollar. and there's a big difference.
but fast food is also very unhealthy and that's the second reason for me not to go to mc donalds very often.
mc donalds gets more and more popular in austria and i think that the people also get more and more thick

Mcheaves is nasty. !!!!!!!!!!
December 13, 2003 - 03:14 AM

Well, I have to say, I never eat Mcheaves. I think that Mcheaves is just nasty. The last time I ate there was about 5 years ago, and let me tell you, their burgers do not even taste like they contain real cow meat. The meat tastes like cat meat for fucks sakes. I would never let my kids eat that crap. All that will happen if you let your children eat that kind is food, is they will end up getting some horrible disease later on in life. Mcheaves is the absolute worst trash you could ever possibly chow down on. You might as well just go and eat some garbage out of a BFI bin. The nutritional value would be about the same. At least then you would not have to wait in line to be served your garbage. Say no to Mcheaves, and go eat some vegetables instead. smile If you like eating cat meat, or horse meat, then maybe Mcheaves will tickle your fancy, otherwise, you are better off making your own burgers at home. Don't people ever wonder why they feel sick after they eat at Mcheaves. Pretty obvious why when you consider that you have just eaten something that would even make a dog say , "My lord, I can not believe I ate that trash". Mcdonalds is pure poison. Here is the menu for you: big yack, quarter puker with cheese, kitten nuggets, filet-O-horse, beaver mc-muffin, and rat head shakes. da da da da da, I'm hatin' it. :P hehehehehehe

MC DONALDS SUCKS EVERYWHERE
December 13, 2003 - 06:32 AM

I KNOW THAT EVERYBODY THINKS THAT BRAZILIAN PEOPLE ARE DUMMY AND STUPID BUT THE FACT IS: HERE IN BRAZIL PEOPLE ARE SELECTING BETTER WHERE THEY EAT. MC DONALDS CHAIN WAS REALLY POWERFUL WHEN I WAS A LITTLE BOY BUT NOWADAYS IT ISN'T ANYMORE. SEE HAVE ACCESS TO THE FILES THAT SAY LOT OS THINGS ABOUT THAT POISON "RESTURANT" ONE OF THE THINGS IS THAT THEY USE A KIND OF WARM TO PRODUCE THEIR HAMBURGUERS (I MYSELF SAW THE FILES AND PICTURES), THEY USE THE COLOURS AND THE FIGURES TO ATRACT THOSE WHO CAN'T PROTECT THEMSELVES, OUR CHILDREN, WE HAVE TO NOTIFY THE PARENTS AND OTHER PEOPLE ABIUT THE DAMAGE THOSE KINDS IF FOOD WILL AFFECT THEIR HEALTH AND BODIES. I USED TO EAT THOSE CRAPS YEARS AGO AND TODAY I CAN SEE HOW STUPID I WAS. I AM NOT SAYING THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE VEGETARIANS BUT THEY SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR HEALTH BECAUSE ON THE TV COMERCIALS WE SEE BEAUTIFUL LADIES, MODELS AND CHILDREN BUT IN FACT WHEN WE GO TO THOSE PLACES WHAT WE SEE IT'S VERY DIFFERENT, WE SSE FAT PEOPLE, UNGLY GUYS AND GIRLS GETTING EACH DAY WORSE.

not talking about scientific aspects, Mc Donald's burgur doesnt even taste good. Im living on campus and i have to eat corporated food everyday and it make me soo sick. I can not imagine how you guys in western world could live on such kinds of food. In the end, working so much and making so much money and profit for what while not even treating your own self consciously? It is not life(well at least it is not to me).

I dont remember but i heard a rumour somewhere that the chicken in the chicken fajitas is not real chicken.Anyway if you want some scientific facts about how junky Mc Donald is check out Diet for a New America and the Food Revolution by John Robbins

Re: Mcdonald's Food

Two cents.

Most of the responses have all been focused on self, what they gain (or do not gain) from McDonalds. What I thought I would do is ask any one if they have ever considered the social or costs outside of their own consumption of McDonalds (or Micky Ds, or McShits to use some common American references).

The Golden Arches are now more recognised than the Christian Cross. Using collectable toys, television adverts, promotional schemes in schools and figures such as Ronald McDonald the company bombards their main target group: children. McDonald's argue that their advertising is no worse than anyone else's and that they adhere to all the advertising codes in each country. But others argue it still amounts to cynical exploitation of children - some consumer organisations are calling for a ban on advertising to children. Why do McDonald's sponsor so many school events and learning programmes? Are their Children's Charities genuine philanthropy or is there a more explicit publicity and profit motive?(cited from 'Mcspotlight.org)

Furthermore, Mcdonalds is more prevailent in areas that have few alternatives: such as lower class/income areas. This has a huge impact on nutrition, as I am sure most of you will not try to argue that it is healthy. When you put your money into the machine, you maye get a tasty treat and not worry about the affects to much. Yet the impact of that is a contribution to a larger process that has lead to essentially what many call 'fast food ethnic clensing.' I claim it is not limited to any ethnicity, just the fact that it continues exploitation of the poor. In West Berkeley, for example, there are 26 fast food joints and 19 liquor/convenience stores in an a 12 block radius, and not ONE super market to buy fresh produce. Are you willing to support a corporation (where you have a choice in the matter) that knowingly hurts others?

IF I GET ANY RESPONSES TO THIS, I WILL PUT A BIT ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL COSTS, OR DIFER IT TO SOMEONE ELSE WHO WANTS TO ADD ON.
