So then what do you think about mcdonald's in general? The food? the organization? I know a franchise owner...and live very close to hamburger college, the center's nickname, in oakbrook, IL. I'm curious to see what your insider take on it would be

McCuntspell it sucks

We have boycotted McDontsayit here in Southern Africa especially South Africa where its market was remarkably McBig. The latest research has shown a considerable shrink in McSales. Do yourselves a favour get out while you still can, stop eating shit now or suffer later. Luke says it best
It is like smoking ciggarettes - the effects, like cancer, don't hit you until years later - but sooner or later you will pay for abusing your body.

No attacking meat-eaters, now
April 22, 2003 - 04:18 AM

It's not responsible to simply write off MacDo to the meateaters as if it's a meateater thing to love mcdonald's. Really it's MacDonald's wonderful advertising campaigns and long-standing embeddedness in our pop culture that keeps us coming back. <Comparable>. As mentioned earlier it's what's appealing to the eye, but just as much what is appealing to the psyche. As for Subway I have never know it to be a paragon of freshness or high quality either.
I think it's wrong to just villify McDonald's and then turn and have fried chicken from KFC. If we're going to be picky about lard and preservatives, then we have to be discerning about everything we eat. Not all veggetarians are healthy eaters, not all vegetables are clean and fresh, and not all burgers are evil <especially>.

The other side of the fence.....
April 22, 2003 - 07:46 AM
|
|
I actually work for McDonald's in Australia as a shift manager and have done so for the last 6 years and felt the need to respond to some statements.
Mike: I don't know about Canada, but in Australia all out hamburger patties are cooked fresh for each run of burgers we sell. As soon as the meat is cooked it gets placed on a burger to be sold.
Bono-Fan: The whole idea behind the New Taste Menu was to provide customers with some variety each time they visited the store. Yeah - I'll agree with you that some of the New Taste Menu stuff is pretty awful, however some of it has been pretty good. As an employee, we have access via a McDonald's Australia website to contribute new ideas in terms of product, happy meals, operations etc... so if you do have any suggestions drop me a line.
------------------------------------------------------------
To make another statement though, it never ceases to amaze me how people expect as McDonald's is a multi-billion dollar empire, that they expect to receive the earth in return. A fine but common example of this is the customer who returns the burger with one bite left complaining that it's cold. My other favourite is somebody who walks in to the store saying that they were in a few days ago and bought something and when they got it home it was terrible; however these people don't bring the burger back, don't bring the wrapperbag it came in back, don't bring the receipt back and expect to be given food - for all I know they could have walked in off the street....
Another thing I hate about working there is that everyone instantly assumes that working at McDonald's is a bottom of the food chain job that requires little effort hence, to work there you have to be pretty thick upstairs, when the majority of us are all schooluniversity kids trying to earn some money to survive. I'd love to see some of the people who constantly complain try and co-ordinate up to twenty 15 year old kids during a Friday night dinner rush.
I'll admit too that McDonald's does do some good things,
I've been to Ronald McDonald House a few times and seen the work done there and I've also won money through the McDonald's scholarship program that supports students still studying as well as working.
However there are other things the company does that I don't like. For example, we get paid weekly, however if a public holiday happens to fall during that week, everyone's pay is delayed by a day. The other frustrating thing is that in order to voice a concern or complaint, you have to work your way along the hierachy in order to do so; for example, I'll tell my store manager, who'll go and tell her consultant, who'll go and tell the operations manager who'll go and tell the regional co-ordinator, who'll go and tell the state manager etc...etc...
Working there over the years however, I have seen everything (and by everything, I mean everything. Whilst the actually job part itself is terrible, it's the people that work there that keep you going....

McDonalds is so bad for you ... the food is really not good (at least, the old stuff, haven't tried the new menu.) But hey, they're learning the hard way that they have to adapt to new tastes. The best way to tell them you don't agree with the way they make their food is to not go there...
Then again I always say "never again" but... I swear they put something in that food!

As convenient as Mc Donalds is to go to, i personally don't really like it. Most of there food is pretty bad for you and it's always busy there!

Go Subway!!!
Unfortunately, my parents love the ease of McDonald's, and there isn't really a Subway near us - so sometimes I'm left with no other choice.
Ultimately though, when im on my own or with friends, we try and find the healthiest stuff to eat.
That, or I cook.

the majority of people know that the food served is not healthy AT ALL. However, everyone still eats there because it's fast, relatively cheap, and convenient.

In the Philippines we have our own fastfood chain - Jollibee. If there is in your area, why not try going there instead of eating in McDo. I love Mc Donalds but I have to patronize our own fastfood junks.

That's true. Too much Mcdonald will really kill you. Mcdonlds says that it serves a wide range of high-quality foods that can easily fit into a healthy, balanced diet. But its that really true? McDonald's does not represent any of their foods as being vegetarian. Mcdonald is among the best known company in the world. But is all this fast food it produces good for you?
