Can T.I.G. bring about World Peace???
May 24, 2007 - 10:32 AM

The main reason I come to TIG is to find signs of world peace. The 2 things I have prayed for all of my life, is a world without war or hunger.

TIG members have you gotten to know people of a different religion and found common interests.

No...but as a group and not as isolated individuals, the people here are much closer to succeeding than they would be otherwise.

Through these discusion boards I know you 2 guys know a lot of different people from different backgrounds. And I know, in your own way you will each help to bring about world peace. I know that each of you will bring that change into your real worlds.

TIG questions the status quo, TIG challenges the traditional, TIG encourages the curious, TIG provides info and opportunities for those willing to stand up and step up to do something around themselves.

TIG is not the UN, and it doesn't have any real power in the tangible sense of that word.

It is better, it cultivates minds of youth who would become future leaders, politicians, economists, etc. and who will eventually make the world peace.

I think the question asked by George is a bit too ambitious, but there is no question tig has made significant contribution to cultural dialogue between different people of the world, which is also a contribution--though a modest one--to world peace.

i quite agree with the quote above, TIG in itself can not bring world peace, but through its activities in cultivating the youth and bringing them together with this virtual space, the youth who will eventually grow up and be the leaders are groomed to be reposnsible for their actions and care not only for themselves alone but others aswell.

I agree with Arslan and MNOPQ -

it is tool that helps us all understand eachother -

but World Peace is simply beyond the scope of this website.

It would be nice to think that TIG can single handedly bring about world peave, but unfortunetly it cannot. There are too many people in the world to be affected by just one website's memebers....but we can try!

When I was in high school we read a poem or short story about war and how if he had meet his enemy in a pub or somewhere else than a battle field how they might not have been enemies. My point is that it is hard to hate some one you know.

I believe TIG can help to bring about Peace just by being a forum where a diverse groug of youth from all over the world can get to know each other.

TIG helps us not to lose our hope to happy, peaceful future of our generation. Till we r together we'll be faithful to our noble dreams and aims. I am being teached by all of u - we r bringing up each other. I will teach in my future children all I've got from TIG and u definitely will too. some of my friends r going to join to TIG and they will do it as well. so maybe after some decades people will be much more concious for their activity. and if we do something now and try to solve present problems together this process will go faster.

World peace is possible, but TIG is only a small part of it. I feel that the internet as a whole is key to the future of humans. The growth of the internet gave power to the people to communicate freely. It is difficult for different groups of people to hate eachother when they communicate on a regular basis. I have friends from all over the world and from several different religions. The forums and the PMs gives them a better understanding of their issues and vice versa.

It also gave that power to hate groups, who seek to divide us. It also gave that power to propagandists, who seek to control us. TIG is an island in the internet without much hate due to its liberal charter and vigorous moderation. it is not the only such island by any means or even the largest island, but it is an example of what the internet should be if it is to further world peace.

Most of you have probably already found examples of what the internet should not be, but some of you may not have. This is the most extreme of the web forums I ever visit. You will find me posting as "Deathbringer", on the rare occasions I post. Observe such topics as "The black attack, where's the media?" and "jewSS single out-as worst".

http://groups.google.com/group/alt.politics/topics

This is one of many, many such sites with light moderation, insipid hatred and atrocious grammar. It is also by no means the worst of the worst; there are some sites where you can't click on a thread without somebody spamming pro-hate literature. People slowly become converts of hate and then attempt to spread hatred to others. I've watched it happen. This online hate virus is the yang that goes with the yin of accidental antihate sites like TIG, and it is why I expressed reservations about the certainty of our success.
