Wolves: The Call of the Wild

When have YOU heard a story where the "Big Bad Wolf" was in it? And what comes to your mind? The big mean creature who eats children, dresses up as granny, and chases the three little pigs away? You may not know how much people dislike wolves. But why? They are just living animals in the creature world, doing what wolves do.

When people hear "wolf", they think of this big nasty ferocious beast that eats humans. Not true. There has never been a recorded wolf attack on humans. Never. So why are we so afraid? Wolves are predators and they hunt to stay alive, just like every one of us. They just want to be left alone, doing their own business. Humans should not be interfering, in my opinion.

Wolves are extremely intelligent creatures that communicate with a variety of sounds. They live and hunt together in a pack. They can even bring down prey such a deer, elk, caribou, musk oxen and even as large as moose. Acutally, wolves are an important piece of the environment. Nature is like a web. If you destroy wolves, then everything else goes wrong. Wolves are needed to keep the deer population low. If there were a high number of deer, then they would eat up all the vegetation, leaving no food for the other animals to survive. Also, wolves only weed out the weak, sick and the old animals, leaving the stronger ones to carry on the herd.

Now you see why wolves are such an important piece in the creature world. Wolves are more afriad of you, then you are of them, belive it or not. So give creatures their space. You should learn to KNOW an animal, before you be afraid of them.

I truly hope I read misinformation but I recently read an article in National Geographic concerning Pacific Rim rainforests and Vancouver Island.
In this article it was mentioned that hikers were feeding scraps to the indigenous wolf population. The wolves began to expect handouts and I would assume lost their fear of humans. No details are given except that wolves attacked some campers and ultimatly two wolves were shot.
It grieves me that this happened. We as a race should enjoy nature and all it has to offer without tampering with it. Most likely everyone thought they were giving the wolves a hand by feeding them. In the end it cost the lives of two beautiful animals and maybe caused the people involved in the attack to change sides and become yet another enemy that the species does not need.

I've always gone to the zoo and admired wolves but hated the fact that they had lost many in numbers and that they weren't in thier own habitat. I went to Colorodo to Yellowstone National Park and it was a great experience. It was awesome how they brought the wolves from the wild cared for them, then were able to put them back in, without any permanent problems. I like the whole Alpha male thing and how he's the head of the pack. I think that they should just be left alone to live now and survive through until the future.

there HAVE been attacks but the wolves have only attacked in self defence. Also you forgot to mention that wolves also kill the young of these animals not just the old and sick but i do ageee that wolves are an important part of the enviroment.
