So if you're not interested, why do do it?

I'm about to finish my first year at university, one thing I've noticed is, that many students study majors that they do not like...and they do nothing about it.
In my country, you get to study a major that suites your high school average, most of the time, people get admitted in majors that they do not want. But many of these students, like myself, fidn ways to transfer to other majors they're inerested in.
The point is, if you do not like it, why won't you do anything to change it? Why being negative and saying you can't do it? It's not only in educatio, many things around us, we wanna change them but we do nothing,,,why?

That is what i called Mentality paragidm, this cut across cultures, nations etc. Many people think the majors are the only accpetable dignified path to go.
We need to encurrage mentality Paradigm shift to curb this attitude.

It's called apathy, my friend.
And it's rampant no matter what age or level of education.

I totally agree
But who said that there's not anyone who likes to be a farmer?
The world will always need farmers, but what's the use of being a farmer if you do not like it and therefor do not care about it?
We need well educated people, but we alson need them to be dedicated to their jobs

Shifting of majors sometimes lead to overcrowding in an area considered honorable or marketable though. What i have known, no education is valueless. It is not only interest that make an education but the contribution we can make to society through it.

what you said is true, alot of people might concentrate on how great it would be if he is called a Doctor or an engineer which is completely their right but in some point they might only care about fame and their name. But here in Jordan and in arabian countries Most of students study things they're not intereseted in only because this is what they were accepted in and Neda we should bare in our minds that not all of the students can afford the transfer process wether financially or even physically what if they tried to change their field and while that they got into some serious problems (family ,lost a loved one, .....etc) you know how things are done here ?? really not easy but even despite everything we should never lose hope and we should keep dreaming until we make our dreams come true

Today morning I came across some postcards at a bookshop with really funny quotes. One of them was 'If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with'.
You may never get everything you want in life (because of such unavoidable obstacles like Batoola mentioned) but sometimes you may get something you thought you did not want but only to realize it was possibly the best thing to happen to you. I don't know if you have experienced anything like that. If I'm not wrong,it's called serendipity .
Before I started University I was dying to be a Dentist (I don't seem to remember exactly why now) but because it required a higher average than I had obtained, I missed it and got stuck with something called Food Science which nobody I knew had ever heard of including myself.I often found myself in the awkward position of explaining what the course was about when I had no clue, just so that I wouldn't look like a fool for choosing something I neither wanted nor understood (Lucky for me no-one could tell whether what I was telling the truth or not) However, despite my initial doubts I have come to enjoy the course very much and I wouldn't change it for dentistry now even if I were to go back in time.
So maybe those who haven't changed find it too difficult, or are just giving the course a try because they aren't really sure what they want to do.

yes ,how nice it's true we may not like or want alot of things but then after years we realize that they were the best things ...there's a saying someone once told me just similar to the one you mentioned but it's about studying
If you don't study what you love then love what you study
