The internet is not a speed bag

A punching bag is often a component of anger management. It makes a good therapy tool because it is a way to vent your rage without causing harm, among other things.

The appeal of the speed bag is that it doesn't have feelings and can be easily replaced.
The internet is obviously not a speed bag, but many people don't seem to make the distinction. Look at any online community and there will be hostility beyond what anybody would consider normal if you were chatting with somebody on a bus stop. In internet slang, this is called "flaming". Most of you have probably experienced it or written some flames of your own, but if you haven't try here. There's also the matter of the subjects under discussion, but that's a different mini-essay.

Why do online communities make people turn into hateful degenerates? They forget that there is a real person behind that simple avatar and cold text. Its surprisingly easy to hate somebody you have never met, and surprisingly easy to be viscous when they can do nothing physical to you.
So, tell a friend. The internet is not a speed bag. Better yet, take the advice to heart; even on this site people can be viscous.

I understand your point. But can we do with it as it stands today?

I don't understand. Did you mean what can we do about it? Umm...not flame? Pass along the message to people you see flaming? TIG is relatively flame-free because the community is small enough that the mods can delete it faster than it comes in, but it happens sometimes anyway.
Just translating ideas that were kicking around in my head to words.

My point was that internet forums should never be used for that. There's somebody on the other end of those verbal punches you throw...and just because some online communities consider it normal doesn't make it right. It should be as simple as not saying anything you wouldn't say in person.

Internet provides opportunities to millions of people around the world, to meet other people online communities, in order to proffer solutions. Sometimes, it could results to verbal attacks which are inevitable.

The internet for many, is people's only channel of free expression, and it is abused because their filtering mechanism is turned off that sometimes inappropriate and offensive things may be disposed of online, even if it was just a thought in passing or to simply test the public. I've read some pretty foul and hateful comments.
I think people feel too guarded by the anonymity they have online. It becomes a coward's veil. And I don't think anything can really stop speed bagging other than humanizing the online world by making people aware of the direct consequences and de-anonymization where they can be responsible for their actions. And then of course, there are web filtering and web security software.
