A lot of folks are in it and are finding it difficult to get out of it.

I think instead of calling Nigeria a starage place, we need to understand that masturbation is common and normal all over the world.

I dont think masterbation is cool. It is simply a part of life for many. It is correctly stated that in the US, people dont typically brag about masterbation, though some do. It is best described in my opinion as a personal action.

I think Masturbation is is problem depending on where you are and how you see it. For me it is a pratice for those who are unfortunate to have a relationship due to some factor well known to themselves but It is also a means of releasing sexual stress that is build due to the daily encounter with very sexy ladies who are far out of the league for those guys.

You should not say "its just not osmething people feel comfortable talking about" because you're speaking for a lot of people (Americans?). You should say YOU are not comfortable talking about it. I've talked about it with my friends and nothing was awkward. It's just how you approach the subject.
It's not a Nigerian thing, or an American thing. It's something that is judged on an individual basis. I can just as well say the same how American culture is so strange because it is taboo to talk about it.

I think it's fine. No one is getting harmed. You learn about your body. You get off. You won't catch an STI. You can do it whenever you want.
As far as other people having an objection to it - those people are just small minded mimics.
