Cruelty against animals
April 11, 2003 - 09:35 AM

Cruelty against animals is a serious issue. I personally don't like it. Animals should be treated just like fellow human beings. Why should they be treated like second-class beings in this world? What do you think about this?

I agree with you. I mean, it's so unfair to animals that we are being cruel to them. They should get respect. As humans, we don't like it when people are cruel to us, than why do you think the animals will want you to be cruel to them? I really don't understand some people how they could do such things.

Cruelty to Animals (wolves especiallt for me)

I agree that animals are treated unfairly and people should realize what they are doing. Humans are harming the creature world more than helping. They don't realize how many endangered spieces there are in the world and put a stop to pollution and overtrapping before its too late.

i agree with all of you that cruelty is wrong. so many people dont even know what companies that use animal testing, for instance, do to those animals and what depressing and tortured lives they live. fortunately a lot of companies are switching to the whole "we do not test animals" thing which is great. but i think that more people need to protest for legislation against it to speed up the process.

Man can easily survive without eating any meat product.

That wolud solve many problems and also decrease violent nature of human kind, which is blood thirsty at most times.

Let me play devil's advocate here for a minute. This is an argument that I recently heard and I'm going to see if I can repeat it (not necessarily that I wholeheartedly agree with it, but I will try to argue it nonetheless!)

They said that it was inethical to value animal life above human life, but they were not talking about senseless cruelty, such as the testing of beauty products for example. Their main example was vegetarianism. They argued that, as top "animals" in the natural world, there is no cruelty in filling our roles as omnivores. They said they realize the major issue concerning animal cruelty is when the cruelty is merely for the comfort or gluttony of humans, but often animal cruelty is expanded to encompass all areas of human-animal relations. Even eating. Why should vegetarianism be such a stirring movement when humans are starving all over the world? Shouldn't the movement be to provide for starving humans instead of protecting the life of an animal?

The argument degraded slightly into an attack on vegetarianism after that, but the thought is still there! Is animal life actually valued above human life by some people?

Solution is simple:

Stop eating all meat but fish. And tell producers meat is not "trendy" anymore.

PETA
March 15, 2004 - 04:49 AM

I think people need to understand that many times organizations ie PETA are too extreme in their ideals. Sure it's wrong to torture animals for fun or testing beauty products, but we need to realize that it's absurd to put the animal's well-being above the well-being of people. The founder of PETA once said that he would rather have children die than lab rats. It's difficult to argue against because its a type of ideology, but actions like breaking into medical facilities, harming scientists and freeing all the animals isn't the right thing to do. I think they have to realize that many of these animals are bred for experiment purposes, and would defenitely not survive if set free. Frankly, I would rather have lab rats die than children.

I agree with IWant, since making a honest fight for rights of animals into an separate ideology is a wrong idea. Since ideologies bring in conflict with others. And usddenly we wont be having organized help for animals, but a word fight among two hostile ideologies.
