Scouting - Creating a Better World

Creating a better world is the vision of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. It is a rich and broad vision. Every Scout and Scout Leader has the opportunity to demonstrate this vision, within the realities of their localities and stations in life. Bringing a smile to a desperate child, providing shelter to a displaced family, contributing to polio eradication, promoting peaceful co-existence, providing a chance to go to school, holding back the desert, environmental conservation, contributing to food security and famine relief, building self confidence and leadership skills, taking part in HIV/AIDS awareness education, creating employment through vocational training, are just examples of projects that Scouts in Africa continue to be engaged in, over time, in pursuit of creating a better world.
Creating a better world starts with self. Making a commitment to make a positive contribution in our lives and for those around us. The Scout Method is a strong backbone in the Scout Vision. By working in small groups, and learning by doing, the young people, with the support of adult leaders learn to identify and implement activities that contribute to the greater good of their lives as individuals and as communities.

When i joined the Scout Movement i realised what they are doing, not from hearsay but being actively involved in the projects, we are going to see some actual changes in this world, it seems its a youth takeover. Lets do this, coz it can gbe done.

I'm curious, is this Canadian "boy" scouts we're talking about? -The "boy" cause girls are now allowed to join. I'm a co-scout leader this year in one of the troops in Toronto, but I find the scouts in our group are not motivated, they are being forced to join because "my parents made me". I don't know but it doesn't seem like scouts are what they use to be. Perhaps we should somehow encourage the scouts, remind them who they are, what their purpose is, and how they can help a community and be role models in our world.
The girl guides are also part of the movement, so this applies to them too, this can be attested by the partnership between WAGGS and the other Scouting fraternity.
