What won't you buy?

Is there something that, due to your political awareness, you won't buy anymore? Is there anyplace that you will no longer shop (Walmart, I'm guessing we're going to hear your name a lot)?

I have stopped buying chocolate unless it is Fair Trade, and I am starting to do the same with coffee.

Good question Amy!
I have considered not to buy a number of items or using some unless really under pressure and there is no alternative.
One being the plastic bags. When i go to the supermarket i carry my bag. When they pasc for me anything in the plastic bags, i kindly offer my bag for them to pack in. After getting environmentally involved, i discovered that i get the bag for only few minutes if not hours then i will have to dispose if causing problems to the people leaving next to the dumpsites. A small thing and stupid it may look but i feel it my duty even to educate the public on this matter.
Another consideration i give before i buy some things whether actaully they are necessary. I have seen people dying of hunger and malnutrition. I buy something that will not even add any satisfaction to me other than just to have my mouth chewing something. Chocolate is one of the things i freely chose not to buy. Why should i really? To keep the company going? Well, am not a rich guy but the experience of not only consumeristic and capitalistic companies but also of the poor and the sufferign has modified my value system.

What a question? I have really considered something similer. I think I wouldn't want to buy something for which I can get a cheeper, but equally efficient alternative. In this light, I think I wouldn't be found dead owning a rediculously expensive car or mobile phone.

I stopped buying fireworks many years ago. I heard about the danger children are exposed by working at the factories.

i avoid clothes by "Route 66". when i was really little, i saw a program about them using child labor and have associated their name with it since. also, i would be careful before buying a persian rug, because child workers are often treated horribly. fortunatly, i don't have to worry about finding rugs from ethical companies, since i could not in my wildest dreams aford to buy one anyway. stick out tongue

I do not buy anything that I do not absolutely have a need for.

I will not but shoes that are made in China, and being a basketball player that has always been a challenge. The folks at Foot Locker definitly wonder if there is something wrong with you when your mum has to do to the counter and ask if they have anything made outside of China, they have no clue and usually only one or two choices. I will also not buy hairsrapy, though I am pretty sure it no longer emits CFCs and veal.

I decided not buy Coca Cola and Pepsi cola and not to drink cola in any way. There are two reasons underlying my desicion. First one is due to capitalist reasons that these companies follow and the second one is that I don't find it healty because no company announces what is in cola and what it is made of. There are many alternatives to cola which are much more healtier such as water, mineral water (especially mineral water added fruit aroma is very tasty) and fresh fruit juice. I don't drink local cola brands as well.
