MDG's
April 11, 2007 - 07:52 AM

I have just realized that not so many people know about the Millennium Development Goals, they keep asking what MDG stands for.

Here's a brief on what exactly they are:

The MDGs represent a global partnership that has grown from the commitments and targets established at the world summits of the 1990s. Responding to the world's main development challenges and to the calls of civil society, the MDGs promote poverty reduction, education, maternal health, gender equality, and aim at combating child mortality, AIDS and other diseases.

Set for the year 2015, the MDGs are an agreed set of goals that can be achieved if all actors work together and do their part. Poor countries have pledged to govern better, and invest in their people through health care and education. Rich countries have pledged to support them, through aid, debt relief, and fairer trade.

actually i never involved in TIG social project coz i'm a new member of this forum. maybe u can help me to explain anything u know about it real actions in social life that held by online social networks such as this site.

in my opinion sharing information through this site will make us more aware to the social issue. we have a lot of discussions about our community but - as we know- it cant be only sharing the ideas, but how to implement them directly to solve our social problem suc as MDG.

maybe u can give the example from the existing fact in your country in term of relationship between youth online social network and their action in real social life

The goal I am particularly energized about Goal 8 - the partnership goal.

This goal is, to me, the missing link in sustainable development. Many individuals, communities, organizations, corporations...seem to work in the "I" mode - and never in the "we" mode. If we begin to make it a habit of asking someone each day - How can I help You - the partnership goal would be magically achieved, as we would be creating a world of partnership, helping each other while ultimately helping ourselves. Asking "how can I help you" is really putting self first, not ego, but self...let us try it -

How can I help you?

hi i am a new member in this site and i have read a lot of stuff here...it is true that not so many people know about the MDG thats why we here in the philippines are having an national MGD summit for young filipino leaders...this summit will inform the youth leaders about the MDG and to develop thier leadership skills...this is our stepping stone in achieving the MDG...after this summit we are hoping that the participant will act to what they learn...in this process we can have an easy execution all over the country...

i just hope that the youth will act on this matter because it is our future....thanks and more power to MDG...smile

Hello,

As you well said, networks like TIG can be used to share experiences. They are very helpful to spread successful stories on how people ould escapoe from hunger and poverty. Such reports and storiies are inspiring and effective.
