I read the book, and to your surprise it took me two nights to finish. It is about a 17 year Togo girl who escaped traditional arranged marrigae [and female genital mutilation], left to Germany thru Benin i think, and then lived in the United States.

I want to hear from those who read the book about the opporession African girls and women suffer in their continent due to their culture and outside their continent due to their skin.

Thanks, glad to hear peoples comment

Hi. I read this book a few months back upon recommendation from my mother and was brought to tears several times throughout the book. It is an amazing story of Fauziya's fight for freedom from the oppression she faced, not only in Africa, but from the treatment she faced once she arrived in the United States. She is one voice among millions who are faced with situations like this on a daily basis...it is hard to imagine. Luckily, her story was a successful one. Sadly there are so many whose stories do not end on such a note. The treatment these women faced in prison baffled me...innocent people who are treated like animals and so many who eventually just give up and return to the life from which they tried to escape.
