[Poll] Voting for Democracy

north america is often hailed as the defender of democracy in the world.. but it is very far from democratic. i live in canada, and there has been a discussion about fair voting for some time now, but no progress seems to be made federally. we also vote for a provincial parliament, and in my province, ontario, we will be having a referendum in the fall to decide whether we should change the current system. i was wondering what people around the world thought about democratic voting, and if you have any tips for ontarians.
another issue is the campaign we'll be launching soon to let people, and youth specifically, know about the october referendum and to get them to come out and vote. the voter participation has been at a record low in canada for some time now, and youth seem to be disengaged from politics.
does anyone have any ideas how this information could be presented to youth in such a way that will make them realize that this is everybody's issue?
thanks.
