Water is one of our greatest needs. We need water to cook, clean, drink, electricity etc.Canada has 20% of the wordl's fresh supply of water but the question is do we use this is water properly or for good purposes or do we waste it? The Great lakes supply us with a lot of fresh water but is it enough to meet our futher needs? One of the greatest concerns and responsiblity is to keep the regions fresh water resources safe for the future generations.
Rainfall and snow only fills 1% of the water in the lakes. The other 99% cant be refilled. We also pollute the great lakes a lot. Not only that but we risk sevral rare species of animals to be exint by polluting the lakes.
Milk is produced on very large dairy farms which contain hundreds of cows. They make milk at a rate of 50 pounds a day, they are also putting out huge amounts of manure. Many are concerned that the great lakes are being polluted by animal wastes from farms.
Just by polluting the lakes we risk lives of others and even us. Many species are threatened. We also have the power to affect change if we work together.
- The great lakes are the largest fresh water supply in the world.
- The great lakes shared by the United States and Canada is home to 35 million people whoes daily lives depend on it
- Water activitites cost $15 billion anually of wich fishing activities contreibute $4 billion.
- Animals and plants are threatened in the ecosystem
