[Poll] Racial Discrimination.....Eliminate!!!

Racial discrimination should be eliminated because there is no reason why people should judge your physical appearance. Physical appearance doesn't count in judgement. The attitude is the one that counts and the one thats be judges not your skin colour...hair style...and so on! All of us are the same. All of us are both human beings and children of God. So, people have no right to judge people by their physical appearance. Remember words can bring us down and don't judge the book by its cover! :@
Did you ever judged someone in their physical appearance???

I agree that racial discrimination is a horrible thing. I think it is unfortunate how some people are treated just because of their skin colour or religon. If only there were some way of completely freeing the world of racism!

I agree that racial discrimination must be eliminated. People are being teased by it's skin colour, religion, beliefs, characteristics, etc. Do not judge someone by it's appearance because the one that is teased will be very, very sad. You don't want to be teased and feel uncomfortable do you? then don't tease anyone by their appearance. Racial discrimination also leads to big consequences such as war or slavery. Please don't judge someone by their appearance. If you do then revenge will come and racial discrimination will not be eliminated. It will just go on and on.

RACIAL DISCRIMINATION
April 9, 2003 - 01:25 AM

I agree that racial discrimination should get eliminated because you should not judge people by their physical appearance. LIke you should not call people dumb or stupid just because they don't have the same skin color, beliefs, religion, etc. You should always judge people by their attitude. So eliminate racial descrimination.

Are you really willing to go for all this homo sapiens brotherhood thing? I'll admit it's a lovely concept in itself, but all this idealism should take a step back, and should be considered thoroughly.
Here's the problem:
a) We have a deepseat prejudice or fear against the unknown. The simplest obvious solution would be of course to have informed learning and communication in an open forum or condusive environment (blah blah) like we are having now about each other. Reality check is that there are 191 countries around the world, and considering the fact that even in the smallest nation in the world (Nauru, an island with a population of 100, I think) prejudice against any anomaly does happen, that kinda deflates the whole idea itself.
b) Racism is so much integrated into our being, we don't even realize we're doing it. It's like breathing for some people, whether learned culturally in one way or another, or generalized opinions from rare contacts with each other. Even in schools where there are of the same race and religion exists the clique system over petty differences such as looks and favourite clothing brands. What makes you think that striving towards it, when you're doing it yourself won't actually be hypocritism?
I sound like the devil's advocate here, but I dearly love a good debate, =). My cynism is a result of living in the system myself, so sue me. :P

just watching the Alien series on the space channel.
I grew up and it was a down east people immigrating to or through and the was the Italien workers Construction Unions strength members building out their big castles in Suberbia.
Then some Asian then the African direct and not.
So my youth was 90 to 98% White. In my Family years it then changed to more like 33, 33 and 33.
But the powers that be never changed. They still in the same military and police controlling hands.
When event around here happen, at times, there is a whole healthy army of large boys in mens bodies. All thinking that they are kings and parade around their ladies.
There are so many little baby soldiers of soul. Less white then before, in the whole city it seems.
We also have soldiers of religion and those of missions and of course of those of fortune and or "freedom".
The white physical soldiers of the poorer downtowns are older and smaller then those younger newer and stronger of the newest incomings and/or relocations by the governing or Global powers.
Will this show up three times, three times, three times, three times, three times, three times, three times, three times, three times.
Saying nothin that makes sence, not even to me!

Hi Chiby :-) Well, you can play the devil's advocate but honestly, I think racial discrimination and preferences towards facial looks need not be intermingled here. Though I strongly feel that both are false ways to judge people. But as you pointed out, the hypocrism is very much there...!

For debate's sake and to indulge ChibiMelody's request (it appears like it is), allow me to destroy her arguments.
First statement :
We have a deepseat prejudice or fear against the unknown.
WRONG. In the case of racial discrimination, a person's fear of the unknown has nothing to do with it. IN FACT, racial discrimination is based on SOMETHING A PERSON KNOWS or what a person HAS BEEN LED TO BELIEVE. How would you discriminate someone based on nothing? If you don't know anything, you wouldn't know the difference among races, ergo, you accept anyone of any race because to know nothing is to know no difference at all.
In Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn, Huck was surprised to see that the blood of his black slave friend was also red and he quipped (something to this effect): "You're blood is red!" Was it because he didn't know? NO. NO. It was because he was led to believe that Negroes' blood is black.
Second statement:
Racism is so much integrated into our being, we don't even realize we're doing it. Even in schools where there are of the same race and religion exists the clique system over petty differences such as looks and favourite clothing brands.
INCOHERENT. How do you equate race/religion to something as trivial as favorite clothing brands? I don't know how you (ChibiMelody) define racial discrimination but for your information, what you cited is as simple as PREFERENCE and NOT RACIAL DISCRIMINATION. I understand that you are too young, thus, what you cited is BULLYING IN SCHOOL and not racial discrimination per se.
Third statement:
What makes you think that striving towards it, when you're doing it yourself won't actually be hypocritism?
Now, if I were an adjudicator of this debate, I wouldn't be so sure of the validity of your arguments because you can't seem to get your terms right. First, you confuse racial discrimination and preference. Then, you say HYPOCRITISM. It's HYPOCRISY. Under normal discussion, I would let this pass, but since debaters as we are and since we're in a debate, it makes me wonder what kind of dictionary you're using not to mention what source you have for all your arguments.
As for my stand, I believe that racial discrimination be eradicated because there is really no basis for such. A person should be judged on merit, potentials, and character, and not by the clothing brands they prefer, right ChibiMelody?

I was just thinking that it is so easy for us to say that racial discrimination should be abolished. We realize this and therefore take it as an opportunity to not do something that would encourage discrimination. Creating awareness is a good idea; we talk about it, pass laws and also write.
The fact of the matter is that, is it really creating an impact amongst the common people, especially in developing countries?
There is the popular coffee shop in Bangalore, on St.Mark's Road. I should say I completely detest that place. This whole loathing thing dint start with the place itself, but by its behaviour towards certain customers. The place as such, is supposed to be an elite coffe shop, which caters to people who are in the "ART" Line...(helping the creative juices flow.. so on and so forth)
The other day, this man, averagelly dressed, wanted to enter the premises to enjoy the ambience and see what its about. He had the money to buy coffee, but dint have the look. The man was denied entrance.
Similarly, the other day, I was sitting in the shop and this other guy who had entered five minutes after me, (inappropriately dressed) was allowed to enter, but was not given any service. This was a sort of way to discourage him to come there. I sat in the shop for 2 hrs, just to see when he gets to have his coffee. The man called out to the waiter, but the waiter who was doing nothing was way too busy.
There are many such examples to racial and lifestyle intolerance.
Most coffeee shop owners say that this is because they have to maintain a certain standard.
Who is going to explain to them?

Hi dreamscoper! The problem with racial discrimination is that it has degrees of intolerance that are subject to people's interpretation, therefore, there could really be no universal standard of approach to the problem. As I mentioned earlier (as a response to ChibiMelody), it is something that stems from what people have been made to believe (culture, religion, education, politics, etc.), so solving the problem will take a drastic change in all aspects of the society.
About the reason given by most coffee shop owners that you've mentioned, as I see it, it is a poor excuse to cover-up for the discrimination they're practicing because they know it's wrong, but they just can't break away from their prejudices. As to who would tell them, I think the government, if it's committed to fighting discrimination of any kind, should revoke business permits of establishments that discriminate.
It's a long shot, but it's worth taking. In the Philippines, the government of one of the biggest cities went down hard on some Korean businessmen who denied entry to Filipinos in their souvenir shop. The government's reason, people who discriminate against anybody have no place in the Philippines to put up businesses. And I agree, especially when foreigners discriminate against the country's own people.
