How does selenium work against HIV/AIDS?

[link="www.takigitglobal.com"]selenium works against HIV disease by four totally different mechanisms.Because of this, supplemention with selenium may be the most effective single way to treat HIV/AIDS.First, selenium acts as a potent reverse transcriptase inhibitor,working the same AZT does against HIV.second, selenium inhibits nuclear factor-kappa binding(NF-KB),primary stimulant to HIV replication in the nucleus of the CD4 cell.By inhibiting this critical HIV stimulant, selenium reduces HIV replication.
Third, both HIV viruses and CD4 cells contain selenoproteins.In AIDS, as billions of HIV viruses are produced each day, it depletes the body's selenium supply.This results in both selenium defiency and the loss of CD4 cells,since it deprivesCD4 cells of the selenium they need to replicate.As selenium levels declines, CD4 cells fall in tandam.
Almost all immune functions require sufficient selenium.selenium depletion eventually results in immune system collapse.this is the immediate cause of AIDS.Selenium supplementation results in immune restoration and increase in CD4 count.supplemention is required because normal dietary selenium cannot make up the deficit caused by HIV.The selenium deficiency caused by HIV contributes to many opportunistic infections,including wasting,karposi sarcoma(KS),cardiomyopathy and muscle weakness.
Fourth, as a component of the cellular antioxidant glutathione-peroxidase, selenium plays a central role in the body's antioxidant system.A review and analysis of the studies conducted on how vitamins and minerals affect HIV disease showed that selenium is the only micronutrient whose deficiency has an impact on the time to mortality.
