yeah ethnicity is a major setback to developmen. It encourages hatred and tyranny amongst communities and people of the same nations and its result is normally tragic,eg: the Rwand-Burundi massacre.

Ignorance of one’s own nationality and culture has damaged many generations of (Moors) Africans in America for example.
I hope you will read our post what shall we call him?

I have to agree that is one prime example of ethnicity being a hinderance of our world community development. It isn't just that; there is many more problems that have happened in time. For instance the massacre in Sudan right now.

Ethnicity is not confined to Africa alone, in a world of mixed races, there's bound to be ethnic conflicts due to different interests and preferences.
This is where active civil education on the evils of ethnicity really helps and the acknowledgement of all that have transcended this barrier of ethnicity.

I think this question solely depends on the definition of the word "ethnicity"...
Is it a sense of common pride accompanied by refuting "others"...?
Or is it the need to preserve a unique "identity", accompanied by tolerance with respect to "others" ?

I fully agree with Ayman. It depends on the interpretation of the word.
The world is as interesting as it is because of it's diversity. But to find unity in this diversity and to eliminate subconcious antagonisms (which were probably inherited from long deceased ancestors) is the seemingly elusive solution for Africa.
