Taking Action
March 17, 2007 - 11:38 AM

The MDGs are great goals that can change the future of the human race. It will help bring the whole world into a safer, more stable state, and show that we, as people, as a society can truly bring good, and change the world. Some say that the MDGs are just a dream and will never be reached by 2015, while others say that we can do it. I believe whole heartedly that we can achieve these goals.

It was not until I found this site, and began looking through it that I found out about the MDGs. I currently in high school and I find it sad that I had to, on my own, find out about these goals. I am truly surprised that there isn't more wide-spread talk, and more action to achieve these goals. I can be wrong, but I don't think America, or many countries are doing as much as they can. I think the fact that many people do not know about these goals shows that it isn't a high priority.

I believe that if individual communities were informed, and told how they can help that more would be done to reach these goals. This is where my question comes in, how can we utilize individual communities to help achieve these goals? What can one do to help achieve them, and where should one donate money etc.

In advance, thank you for your response smile.

Thanks for this issue that you have brought up. After independe, all nations declared ignorance, disease, hunger and poverty as enemies to development. Alot but not enough has been done. The MDG principles have only taken different words to express the same.
How can we achieve something. First is awareness creation. The developemnt agent must not only work for the communities but educate them on matters of education, health, women rights and the environment. This education should not only focus on these as problems but to show how they contribute to the general welfare of society if change is achieved.
Secondly, most often, the affluent communities are marginalised when it comes to population education on matters like child and women mortality, education for all, etc because they are assumed to understand and they have the resources. How can we achieve a better society when already those involved in the working structures are not properly educated to work with the poor?
Thirdly, me and you are doing something using IT.
Thanks.
