Africa and the MDG

From my own point of view, is seems that African countries are failing to achieve the MDG's. What is your own opinion on this issue, and suggestions for a way forward.

African governments must realise that partnership with civil society organizations is critical to the attainment of the MDGs.
The youth must be brought on board through the creation and operationalization of National Youth MDGs Programmes. The MDGs are primarily about the youth since we constitute 60 percent of Africa's population.
I rest my case.
Thanks

I encourage everyone to visit my profile and read my article entitled "Achieving the MDGs in Ghana: A shared Responsibility".
I must commend the government of Ghana whose president now Chairs the African Union (AU) for doing a lot towards meeting the 2015 MDGs Target. The Ghana government has implemented the Free, Compulsory and Universal Basic Education(FCUBE),The Capitattion grant that ensures no child pays for basic education tution and the NEPAD School Feeding Programme. The Religious bodies and civil society organizations have been brought on board to meet the MDGs challenge.
Ghana is on track and I hope earnestlt that we'll get there by 2015.
The youth must however intensify campaign.advocacy and action programmes in schools ,churches and their respective localities.
Power to us!

I think the reason why,if African countries are failing to achieve MDGs is because of their lack of planning. You can't just implement free primary education just because you woke up one morning and felt you should, or you were trying to prove a political point. In Kenya primary education is free but there are usually so many children in one class that there is no opportunity to attend to each childs needs. I volunteered once as a primary school teacher and I noticed some children were left to repeat classes indefinitely because they couldn't catch up ( after all it was free!)Between marking scripts and handling all the other children no-one had time to find what their problem was.

If African governments want anything to be successful they should sit down with professionals in that particular field, think carefully through to find the best way to go about it .And all this without the influence of petty politics.

In my opinion, Africa is failing to achieve the MDGs because, first we lack planning. Before you can attain a goal the fisrt and the most important one needs to do is to plan. In planning, we have to set goals which can be divided into three sections. Namely; foundational, birdge and actualisation goals.

Secondly, we lack proper implementation. If the planning is not done well and the implementation is also poor, you can just imagine where we're heading towards?

Lastly, I will entreat all the youths in African to get involved in this battle to make the continent a better one for us and generations to come. The youths need to educate peers about the MDGs, what it means, the time limit and much more.

I do apprecitaes evry one,s view and i want to belive that this is a good way and means to educate young people into having an idea,s to milenium goals.
I do suggest that there should be a proper check by govt to forget about the middle class and upper class and devote time to improvement,s of education, skools and other basic infrastructures.cos i want to belive the children are the leaders of tommorow.

The actualisation of the Millennium Development Goal is a reality in the developed countries and infact more and more steps are being taken to see if they could achieve those things before the 2015 mandate. In Africa, this is not so because of one singular reason, and that is getting the most proactive citizens of various countries into the stream of decision making and action taking processes. The youth are one vital key to the actualisation of the MDGs, I will want to ask this question: How many African countries has the National Youth Parliament? and if any do, How many are really doing what they ought to be doing? and not being used for political assignments.
If we can answer this questions, Then I think we will bw one step forward and the remaing steps will automatically be shown.

On my point of views, failing for realization of some MDGs committmets in Africa is not the blame to African, but the world at large, since the targets, plans and vissions were initialezed by the collective. and the implementations were doing by the world at large.
therefore, the world, as a whole, must find what are the limiting factors. But for the african countries themselves also have to work hard to ensure that, in this Millennium Development Goals there should be more participation from the grass roots level, were the one who are the major target on what in disscussing.

I believe MDGs in Africa can be achieved, however, as the goals are somehow interrelated, failing to achieve one of them, can affect others as well.

Still 8 years left.
We surely can achieve them if we aim to.

Mostafasmile
