Hello.
I'm learning english and I think the most difficult are prepositions and phrasal verbs.
for example:
I am going to the movies.
I am going to the theater
I am going home
I am going downtown

Is there any explanation why in the first phrase we have to use the preposition (to) and in the last one we don't have to use it?

Best wishes from Brazil

Antonio

the last sentences were just stated in an informal manner, still, these can be writte as
"I am going to our home."
"I am going to the downtown area."
