War on Afghanistan shows logical result of unsuccessful struggle by the U.S. to build pipelines through it.It is about oil, gas and pipelines around the Caspian Sea. To transport oil and gas from the east side of the Caspian Sea, pipelines had been planned through Afghanistan. Because a U.S. company, UNOCAL, failed to control the Afghan route, the war was prepared. When the military was ready to strike, the "terrorists" of 9/11 gave Bush the pretext to start this war and obtain support from Congress, the U.S. population and the rest of the world.

The "Pipeline Conspiracy" is a favorite of the conspiracy theorists who scour the internet believing everything they read as long as it sustains them in their alternate realities.

The "Pipeline Cnspiracy" alluded to above is also called the "Unocal conspiracy theory". Back in the 1990's Unocal Oil Company hired a Korean engineering company to see if an 1,100 km pipeline could be built across Afghanistan to Pakistan. The Taliban were willing to let them do it but Unocal changed their minds. It was never built. It still isn't being built. It probably never will be built. So, go ahead. Make your "conspiracy theory" work. Who is building a pipeline across Afghanistan?

No pipeline - no "conspiracy theory".

Arslanik wroteThis is just horrible. But what do you think is the solution, Ajay? If the "liberators" are not really liberating, what is the alternative?

Arslan

What is really scary is that if the "liberators" leave Afghanistan at the moment, then we'll have a situation similar to what happened when the Soviets withdrew.

The Taliban resurgence is 100% fuelled by Pakistan. NATO better do something significant about the cross-border help to the Taliban.

Afghans complain about little development in the south but how can NATO do anything as long as a Pakistan-sponsored Taliban destroy anything and everyting they try and build.

It does not matter what we think about Taliban. The important thing is that the US invaded the country and punished Taliban for a crime it did not commit. If we are going to invade any country we don't like, then we can all kiss this world goodbye.

What do you think of the fact that Taliban were actually harbhoring Al Quida in afghanistan ?

I have no sympathy for any terrorist groups, including Talibans and Al Quida.

during afghan jihad, two major figures were fighting in afghanistan and they are dead now, 1. abdullah izam, 2. tameem,
osama bin laden somehow managed to come to pakistan where he was living with a commander of prof. Sayaf. he was young and unknown to afghans and thier social values. therefore, he got some difference with izam and his loyals. izam was assassinated.

he went back and during the mujahedeen period he was brought in a special plan by Eng. Ahmad Shah, a person with a US wife and nationality. he lived there for a while again. and then went back to sudan, from there he came to assist the taliban regime and hijacked them. whatever he said was right and did not help afghans in any way. no welfare job was done by in desptie the fact that he was one of richest people in the world, but when the time of helping afghans came, he denied to go out of afghanistan. thousands of afghans were sacrificed for him.

US intervention in war in Afganistan has many reasons. If i remeber correctly it all goes back to the cold war era when both erstwhile USSR and USA were involved in Afganistan for their vested interests.afetr 9/11 US became direcly involved and is continuing with its role in Afganistan.many times i wonder about the general people of Afganistan-how they cope up with this long drawn war.
its very difficult and must say brave as they are they are still continuing with life.
however my main concern is not why US is involved in afganistan but how can total peace be brought back to the region and it put on the development track.

good question!

afghans are never asked, what they want, Zahir shah (the present fahter of the nation) ruled for 40 years, then Soveit interference, govts. kept on changing, bloody coups, direct USSR invention and occupation of afghanitan, war for 12 years, 2 years war with pro-soviet govt, of Dr. najeeb ullah (killed by taliban in 1996), mujahedeen supported by different foreign states, taliban and now US backed Karzai. people are without any option but to accept every govt. and sacrifice.

the solution is an UN force, or a UN backed islamic states's force, to work for people of afghanitan, a loya Jirga, or elections and a govt. representing the poeple of afghanitan, not a govt. like the present one, imported ministers who are even unaware of the social and political system of afghanistan.
