Selling Canda's Water? Yes
April 4, 2003 - 11:09 AM
|
|
Question. Should Canada sell it's water to countries who are in need of it? I think Canada should sell our water to countries who need it. Most of the people in this world doesn't get enough water, and Canadians use a lot of water for recreational activites. When most countries don't even get enough water to support life. By selling our water, Canada can improve our communities with the money we earn. Many companies can make money.
If people don't get enough water they might attack Canada for our water. It has been said that "water is liquid gold" which can cause Canada a to have a lot of conflicts with other nations. Why fight when there is a simple answer, to this question. Sell our water, and Canada will be in peace.
By selling our water, we can help and save many peoples lives. If you are worried about Canada losing water, just look outside. We have snow in April, which can be melted then cleaned and turned into drinking water, that can be sold to people in other countries to use. Canada has lots of precipitation so most of our water can be replaced. If there are countries who can not purchase our water, we can trade for something in return.

To sell or not to sell? That is the question.

I don't think we should sell our water. Even though we have a large amount of fresh water, Canadians are used to using a certain amount of it, if the water is taken out of the blue, then it will cause confusion and unhappiness. For example, the standard amount of water for each Canadian is 95 million litres of water per person but we are adapted to using 45 trillion litres of water. I wouldn't consider Canadians wasting their water, I think they are taking USEFUL advantage of what they have. That's just like saying if you have a lot of money, why don't you spend more money than an average person does.
Other than human beings, animals need water for their habitats. If we give the water away, where will the sea creatures go?
Fact- A five minute shower uses 100 litres of water, considering that fact only applies to one person. It really adds up if you calculate for the entire population of Canada.
I understand the fact that how badly people in other countries need our water but Brazil, Russia and China has even more fresh water than us. Therefore why not ask them instead? There are no reasons for us to sell the water if other countries have better quanity and quality than us.

I think they should sell water because some water in other places are dirty not like the Canada water..... they are a bit cleaner than the other people's water because we don't pollute the water that much like other contries....or do we? but i think it is better than other water . We should keep our water CLEAN!!!! NO MORE WASTE!!!!!!!!! We wan't our lakes CLEAN, not DIRTY!!!! We are not using our water smartly. Only electric???? We need it clean so we could drink from it. So we should sell clean water.

i don't think.....

I don't really think we should even sell our water. The water that comes from lakes should be free because they are there. We shouldn't get money out of something that we have a lot of. Just because we don't have unlimited supply, it doesn't mean markets can get our money for it!! That's just plain wrong to waste our money on something that is already there!!
It is actually our fault that water prices are rising, because we keep on wasting our water supply and ruin it with our garbage!! If you ever decide to throw your trash in the lakes etc, it will affect yourselves. We need water to survive so if we keep up with littering, soon we will have no fresh water to drink!! Even if we do in the future, we probably have to buy it at a high price. To think we could have fresh water for free. Would you buy water if one bottle costs $10 dollars in the future? No, too expensive? But if you have to then you must. And when that day does come, there is no turing back, what is done is done.

I think Canada should sell water because there are many other countries that are less fortunate. I do not think Canada should be the only country selling water to less fortunate countries. Canada has lots of water, but only 15% of it is fresh. So we have a limited supply of fresh water, but if other countries have more fresh water supplies, they should also sell. If all the countries share, and try to be equal, no one would have any complaints, and further compremises could be done.

I agree Canada should sell its water to other countries. It can earn more money that way. Also, even though if the country can’t pay for it, they can always trade with other things for example oil in return. It may not even cause conflict between nations because we are willing to sell our water. We can earn a profit here. We have a lot of water where it’s not needed so why not sell it? I mean, why not sell it for a reasonable price? By selling our water, with the money it can help to improve schools, hospitals (etc.) We sure do have a lot of fresh water compared to other nations. No one really owns water. I guess it’s best if we do share this water.

Canada shouldn't sell it's water
April 6, 2003 - 08:09 AM
|

We shouldn't sell out water to any other country because even now our water levels are dropping down really fast to dangerous levels. This can damage our water ecosystems. I think we are really going to need the water in the future so we shouldn't waste it. We must protect the water in our country so its available to the people of Canada. Only half of the amount of fresh water that we contain is renewable. In fact, the UN predicts that we’ll all have water shortages by the year 2050. If we even take out 1 cm it will be taking away about a million gallons of water. This can cause some of the plants to be destroyed. Some sea creatures depend on water plants and if they don't get it they will die which will cause chain reaction. The animals who depend on the fish will die, and the animals that depend on those animals will die, so in that case the whole chain will be destroyed. It will end up on us because we eat meat too, so we can die too.
We are really going to suffer from water shortage in in 2050 and its a fact. People seem to think that water is everlasting but it isn't. We have about 20% of teh world's fersh water and most of it is polluted and frozen so we only end up with 1.7% of the water that is drinkable. There are some othere countries who have more than enough water too but tehy are smart to think about future beacuse they know that if they give away their water to other countries their people are going to suffer from water shortage in the future. Even if we do sell our water to other countries, we might run out of water for ourselves in the future and no other country will agree to help us because they care about their own people, so it would be smart enought to save our water for ourselves.
Some people say that we should sell the water to other countries because we are wasting it anyways. If the water goes down the drain it eventually gets reused again. It's also true that water can refill itself in 10 hours but in those 10 hours a lot of damage could take place, like plants will die. It's also going to cost us money to ell water to other countries. TAXES!!!

Many people in the world are suffering, because they don't have fresh water to drink. Fortunatly, Canada has a lot of water. 15 percent of our water is fresh. People in Canada are taking advantage of their water, and over useing it, instead of sharing it with less fortunate countries. Places like Sri Lanka, India, Kalkada, and other countries aren't as fortunate. Water is renewable, and some of our water is unimaginably old, i'm talking thousands and even millions of years. Why should we be worried that our water will run out if we know that it will last for centuries? If all the countries share, there will be less complaints and less problems. Some countries are not going to be able to aford the water, so instead they can give natural resources like oil, something Canada doesn't have too much of. Canada shouldn't focus 100 percent on how or fresh water supply will be in the future, if many countries need it at the very moment. There are too many countries suffering with deadly deseases and people dyeing, because air and WATER are the main elements that humans can't survive without. Canada shouldn't be the cause of deaths, because we want to survive for a long long time. You can make a difference, so step up and share your opinion, save a life. How would you feel if you didn't have as much money and you were water deprived? not very happy. Thats how other people are feeling at this very moment. Do yourself a favour, and help someone.

Re: Selling Canada's Water
April 7, 2003 - 07:33 AM

Although Canada has a large supply of the world's drinkable water from lakes, rivers and wetlands, I feel that Canada shouldn't sell its water. Selling Canada's water can cause a major problem even though the problems are unknown. Ecosystems can be ruined causing the Web of Life to be unbalanced. The water is used for agriculture and for their own consumption. Canadians consume 350 litres of water per capita while the average global citizen needs only between 20 to 40 litres of water a day.
As the years past by, water will increase in value due to the decreasing quantity. It has been said that water would become “liquid gold” which will cause wars between countries. The term “liquid gold” refers to when water would become sparse making it expensive like gold. The reason that the value of water is on the rise is because factories and companies produce pollution, which affect the water we drink.
If Canada sells its water to another country, then other countries would ask for water. If Canada declines, wars could possibly start for the ownership of the water.
All in all, Canada should not take this risk of selling its water.

to sell or not to sell
. Should Canada sell it's water that is the question everyone in the class 7/8s is asking. We all have reasons to believe that canada should or should not sell it's water.
Some believe that Canada should sell its water because they would make Canadians look good also think of all the allies Canada could make. Canada has 20% of the world's fresh water. 9% of it is replenishable.
I think that Canada should sell it's water because think of all the lives Canada could save. Canada could have much more water if we the lawabiding cizitens could save it by less washing of the cars, stop washing hair everyday ,fix all lekay facets and much more. but for now try your best to do what right.

Canda's Water should be sold
April 10, 2003 - 09:16 AM

I personally think that Canada could sell the water. Canada is one ot the countries that have the freshest water on Earth, if we sell it then we can get it back by rain and evapouration, this is how our amount of water on Earth has stayed the same for over 4 billion years ago. 97.5% of our water is filled with salt but only 2.5% is useable. Studys have shown that out of the 20% of fresh water on the world, 9% is renewable. Canadians consume approximately 350L of water a day per capita. Of all the people in the world, Americans are the most profligate wasters of water in ther world. An average citizen only needs 20-40 L of water for drinking and sanitation. It has been said that our water will become the oil of the 21st century or also know as liquid gold, this may cause war between nations. Over the past few years, meetings have been more intense about if Canada should sell their water for other resources like gas, oil and timber. If it is decided not to be sold then it will be very life-threatening, more people's lives would b taken because of dehydration and more conflicts will be produced awll over the world.

I think Canada should sell it's water because the countries who we sell it to would be able to give us money we need in return. Also if we sell our water we won't need to waste money sending over aid to the countries who's people are dying because they have a water shortage in their country or because they just can't afford to buy water from other countries. We would also be able to trade our water to the other countries for items we need right now such as oil which would even it out because we would gain back what we lost. Another reason is the money we make off of the water we can put into things in our country that need money such as transportation and healthcare. By not selling water to countries who need it we are being called killers and this way our country would earn a good name for it's self if we sold our water. If you think about it everyday we constantly waste our water and no matter how much we sell we wil still get all the water back eventually because of the water cycle. If we do not sell our water other countires may get mad at us and attempt to start war with us and well let's face it we don't have the strongest army in the world.

Selling Water

I agree with th people that want to sell the water. I think Canadians waste a lot of water of useless activities. If we sell the water then we will be in peace with other countries. It will increase the economy for Canada. Selling the water is better then wasting the water. At least selling the water to others will help.

We should sell water because if we sell water we can trade water for oil, timber and other products. We should sell because we will a lot of money for it and get better roads , hospital and other needs. Since Canada has 20% of the world's fresh water , Canada should share before it gets worse and wars start between nations. We should sell because if water shortages their will be diffrent kind of talks that Canada has that much water and not selling . A normal human being needs 20-40 Litres for water every day for drinking and sanitation but Canadians are just wasting since they have a lot.
In the future it will liquid gold so you can earn a lot of money and use it for your other uses, it will even out pretty good.

I disagree with Michael88. Canada doesn’t have any major debts to pay. Although Canada’s schools don’t have what they want, they are still able to teach. If they went on strikes and the government keep on giving them money, they’ll just keep on asking for money. If we start to sell our water, then we’ll run out even faster. If Canada sells it’s water to another country, other coutries would be jealous and will soon ask for water. What if Canada can’t supply the amount of water the other countries need? If we decline, wars and conflicts would be started.
