Afirmative action is detrimental to all minorities in the US.

i believe that affirmative action is a problem for all minorities in the US. It may seem like it is befinicial to many members of a particular race because it gives them a slight edge over the competition particularly the 'white man', but in reality what it actually dose is make white people look down on minorities and consider them inferior. Many white people look at affirmative action as giving minorities a helping hand because they can not match up to us on a person to person basis.

This seems to be a good discussion point. Probably we can look at the Affirmative Actions not just in USA but also in other countries. What is it that people expect? and What gets done?
Peobably, we can start by elaborating on the Affirmative Actions in USA vis a vis Minorities.

this is totally true. and it gives the white man more reason to "hate" women or coloured people because he has facts that prove that certain companies would not hire him even if he was better, but would take the other to fill a quota.
filling a quota is not my idea of fairness, or human dignity. i know i'd rather be hired knowing i was chosen because i'm the best for the job.

Affirmative action is a policy or a program of taking positive steps [1] to increase the representation of certain designated groups allegedly seeking to redress discrimination or bias through active measures, as in education and employment. It is usually achieved through the use of preferential treatment for those groups. Proponents of affirmative action generally advocate it either as a means to address past or present discrimination or to enhance racial, ethnic, gender, or other diversity.
However, opponents of affirmative action contend that affirmative action programs create their own discrimination because they result in preferences given to individuals on the basis of race, sex, and national origin. (From Wikipedia)
It is obvious that the circumstances or vulnerabilites need to be kept in mind before deciding what kind of support to be given to an individual or to a family. But then how do we justify those who "seem to be taking advantage" of the schemes/policies put in place specially for them? Whether its about Reservation for people from minority community or a person from so called "scheduled castes/tribes (in India)", many of us suggest that we need to keep the economic stability as one crieteria to decide whether resources need to be allocated to a family or not.
However, it may be very difficult to "qyantify" the vulnerabilities. It has been such a complex thing, especially in the developing world. Vulnerabilites can range from -belonging to lower social strata to having disability to being a woman to being a child without parents.
