MDG's:DREAM OR REALITY

It was encouraging to see the whole world united together and come up with MDG's but am confused when i see the first goal which aimed at eradicating extreme hunger and poverty, because i don't think if hunger and poverty can be eradicated rather they can be reduced.

Hi there,
I am agree with you at some point.
The MDG's are a dream .. but it can become true.
Indeed the title of the first goal it is to erradicate poberty and hunger .. but if you read the content of the indicators .. it says "halve" poverty and huger.. which is more realistic.
You can find a complete descripion at:
http://www.unmillenniumproject.org/
By the way I just read that Vietman already reached the first goal!! .. so every country should be encouraged!
Greetings

Well, i agree that MDG's can come true, but the deadline seems a little unreal. I mean, it's already 2007 and the MDG's are supposed to be reached at 2015. Taking into account the few actions that the governments are really carrying out, I think we're not going to make on time.

Reduction of poverty is the begginning of it being totally reduced.Well when one is set to achieve an end its normally a process, not a one time achievement, esp with regard to matters of global effect.Poverty eradication is a procees,a good one which cannot be abandoned however long it takes, gradually this will eventually yield great fruits.

You sound discouraged. Yet, as you say we are only in 2007. * The way I see it, we have 8 more years to go before announcing whether or not we've had too little or too much time.*
And even though it's good to be aware of how much time we have spent and how much time is left, the challenge of completing the MDG's by 2015 still stands within reach.

PS Having said all of that, I can understand where you're coming from having had the same thoughts occur last year!
