In Nigeria, youth are being sidelined when decisions that concerns them are bein taken. How then can youth help in making sure the the MDG goals are met?

Hi everybody,
My name is Osée Résidor, from Haiti.
According to the subject, I would say that the Youth should be involved in all the process of the MDG. We are the future generation that will be affected by these issues.
Regards.

I think that youth are often ignored, even in developing countries where there is often a lot of support offered for young people, there isn't a lot of effort actually put into acting on what young people actaully want and say.

I agree that the youth should be involved in discussions about the Millenium Development Goal asspecially since the youth is the future meaning that they are more likely to be on earth longer so the diccisions has more affect on their future. The youth accross the world must have a part to play in the future of their country.

indeed the youth is the future of our nation...
thats why here in the philippines, we are really doing our best for us to spread the MDG...we are organizing this national MDG summit for young Filipino leaders...we are also asking support from the local and national government to sponsor this event...
in this case the government would really see that the youth is doing its part in nation building...

the problem I have seen in our countries is that, the policy planners for the youth matters are the government officials who over aged, they end up planing policies which are not compatible with youths' needs. we need to enable young people to make their policies on their own and not none-youths to do it.

Whereas it is true that youth is not necessarily involved in shaping local politics and economies, there is at least a layer of prestigious organizations such as Open World Initiative of Evian Group or the Young Global Leaders of World Economic Forum, members of most of which are rich and famous and are usually younger than 40. Members of these two orgs are usually chosen and their outreach in what concerns recruitment is rather limited and close to public.
There is an apparent need to have a youth umbrella organization which would be easy to access and will go further than all other youth orgs such as AIESEC or IAESTE in claiming they change the world, whereas all they do is have a modest impact by exchanging students, most of whom are usually and stop there.
There is a need of something truly global and impactful.

Dear all,
i also think that you don't have to seeki oppportunity from NGO's and others..its the wrld of meritocracy. you have to show some work despite your busy days or jobs. MDGs is not a easy job..its common agenda but not a opportunity giver instantly but gradually.
regards
Dipesh

THis issue is very important but unfortunately the youth are not informed and they also luck resources especially in Africa.I can bet that very few youths know exactly what the millenium goals are and how it affects their lives.I insist that the youth should start looking for information from whichever source this is the only way we can get ourselves to places we have never imagined.i would arge the government and civil societies to mentor and give necessary resource to the youth because they are the leaders of today.

We know that we are the future leaders of the world and that our involvement in policy making, MDGs achievement cannot be overemphasised, But what can we really do when we find ourselves in a Nation that does not regard her Youth!? A nation that think-less about the welfarism of her future leaders!

Hi people we can talk and discuss all we want but thinks will still remain the same you know.My suggestion is this why dont we try and do something about all this issues that we are discussing then we can come together again through this discussions to tell the story of what we have done like eg i am hoping to attend the upcoming conference in nigeria on the MDG in december so that i can come back with the information and share the experiences that i encountered just to keep my fellow youth informed. What can we do here at TIG

The most that the youth can do in the achievement of the MDG's is to actively participate in the programs that their countries are undertaking to meet the targets come 2015. We have to show our leaders that we care about our countries situation and the whole world as a whole. We must not be contented to just listen but we must air our sentiments and voice out all the ideas that we believe to be relevant in the said issue. Nobody monopolizes knowledge that is, even the most intelligent policy maker could still consult a kid on what is it that they need in their communities. The main goal of the MDG i guess would be to empower people and create not only a world free of hunger or poverty, but a world where the rich and poor alike will be able to make choices and not be locked to helplessness. We have to make our leaders accountable for their actions as they have it in their hands on what policies and programs are to be done to better serve us and achieve the MDGs. The youth are the future of our own nations that is why we must believe that even at a young age we can do things to help our communities and build capacity so that in the future we will be able to serve our countries.

I think the youth should take initiatives without waiting for governments to engage in discussions or policy making. There are avenues such as the media that can be exploited. Writing of articles, rejoinders should be encouraged. Participating in radio/TV talkshows or interviews is also important.
Young people should be able to express themselves through these available media. In doing this, government will have no choice than to engage since any policy will be crticially scrutinized by the youth
