Let us also commemorate the sacrifices of the Bangladeshi and Indian peoples against Pakistani aggression. This is the reason we celebrate Mother Language Day at all.

Dear Manosij,
Maybe you can elaborate fiurther on the link between celebrating "International Mother Language Day' and the conflict.
Many were not able to see the connection.
I saw the explanation in your recent
blog entry and hence I am taking the liberty to post the link to your blog here to facilitate the discussion. I hope you dont mind [link="http://manosijm.tigblog.org/post/163023"]
Cheers

Not at all. I think I should have been more explicit to begin with. Thanks.

this is so cool. i have never heard of this day but it is a great idea. cultures need to be preserved and experianced, but so many are dying out. now i only wish i knew Italian or Cherokee so I could participate but those are both many generations removed from me and never were passed down.

hey i remember celebrating Hindi saptah( week) in school during which we had special assemblies and programmes.
Although i am good at Hindi now..but at that time my hindi was not very good and had a tough time translating every word in Hindi. For example calling a train 'lohpatgamini' etc.
The amazing thing was that even the students from Hindi speaking states werent better than me at it.
It was tough time looking for hindi equivalents of lunch break, games period ( krida samay) , brunch time, etc. Nobody speaks original hindi nowadays...In Mumbai people speak Bombayiiia Hindi ( which sounds horrible!). People now speak a mix of Hindi and English with different accents depending on the place they grew up in.

in 2005, i had the opportunity to be in Tamil Nadu (India). Tamil is certainly the toughest one in India I think.
and then in 2006, i went to Mizoram (India) and realized how musical "Mizo" language is!
