CROSS- GENERATION RELATIONSHIPS & HIV TRANSMISSION
February 20, 2007 - 07:56 AM

Hi guys!
Cross- generation relationships are relationships between people of a younger age and of an older age (diffent genarations). E.g. a young girl of 16 years and a man of 45 years.
Do this relationships exist in your country and to what extent do they contribute to the rise of HIV infections and transmission ?

Send your posts and & wait for intresting experiences from my country Kenya, from me ofcourse!

hi there....
I think cross generation relationships exist in all cultures and all over the world. In India too it exist. Many of our popular Bollywood Movies are based on this issue. It contributes to the spread of HIV Infection since there is unequal power dynamics there are strong chances of younger one being exploited.

Hi Guys!
Thanks for those who replied to this thread. Yes, cross- generation relationship are real even among the most tender and oldest ages that you can imagine. Yes again, to some extent they contribute to the spread of HIV. This relationships are in most cases kept a secret since they are viewed as shameful. In the case of young girls for example, they will move with older men for monetary gains. To make matters worse, they often opt to have another younger man as the true lover. The older men on the otherhand are married in most cases and still move with other women on the side. Get the picture! Recent statistics in Kenya reveled that the number of young girls below 20 Years and older men over 40 had raised than ever before!
