I think at some level people are racial discriminated at work place. Every one has been and will always be a discriminator. But what we think does not have to be refelcted on our actions. This is against the law.At the same time no one follows, so the law is worth less at some rate.

Racism

I think this question is very easy to answer. There is racism everywhere in the world, so why wouldn't there be racism in work areas?
Racism is very cruel and mean to people. I'm pretty sure that mostly everyone's faced racism before. But, mostly everyone has also discrimanated someone because of their race, religion, or culture. I know that sometimes it doesn't really feel like that you are discrimanating someone, but you are. The best way to make sure you're not discrimanating someone is to not make fun of someone, even if it's just a joke. Sometimes others don't know that it's just a joke, so it hurts them.
Racism shouldn't happen in this world, because everyone in this world is different in their unique ways. That's what makes this world interesting. So, you have your own distinctive expresions and your exceptional self is not alike anyother. That's how we can tell you apart from someone else. Why should someone get teased because they are different. I would say;
YOUR DIFFERENCES ARE WHAT MAKES YOU, YOU!

Racism can exist in work areas. It exists anywhere else. Many people of different races can attend one workplace. Sometimes, some people give out pamphlets about joining their religious practises, or ones against people's skin colour. Some work areas have called this illegal, some haven't. What's important is that the people can co-operate together. Without co-operation, companies won't succeed. Ten is better than one. Anyways, racism can happen in any place, at anytime.

Racism is everywhere. I mean look at the world now, everywhere you go you would be discriminated to go around chinese people. In work places, of course you are. Look I bet you that every black person would get their background checked a lot more than any other race. Also back than when the twin towers was a big thing, they would look twice at a brown person with a turban on. I really didn't like this seeing how I am punjabi. Just because my religion also wears a turban doesn't mean that we have the same beliefs and rights as they do. So obviously I believe that racism is in work areas.

If there is racism everywhere than there is probably racism at the work area. I dont know why some people believes that other races are not as good as their own and therefore treats them unfairly. Racism should stop. This influences their work and it stops them from co operating with others. Racism is bad for worker and employees. people can lose comfident, and it influences bad work performance.
People should not be teased or laughed at becauuse they area different race or are different. Racist behaviour can be against the law. Therefore racism can hapen anywhere even in work places.

"Racism" as a word is a contridiction
May 19, 2003 - 08:11 AM

I just wanted to say that their is intergroup, or inter-ethnic discrimination, however the word, "Racism" is incorrect unless you are discriminating between the different races of man that have evolved over time. Anthropologically, and biologically there are not subspecies of mankind, we are all considered Homo Sapien Sapiens(H.S.S.) The only differences we have are diverse adaptative characteristics such as the varying darkness of our skin, the strength of our teeth, the height of our bodies, and other types of physical differences which evolved over time for a number of reasons.Such diversity between us is invaluable, and has enabled mankind to subsist now for generations.
The idea of one homogenous, "race" such as proposed by men like Hitler or other bigost goes against the very instance of human nature, and survival. Further the word Racism in a concept to discriminate between skin colors, or ethnic groups demonstrates an improper understanding of biology, as well as paleo anthropology. In reality "race" can be defined as species of Homonids past to the present. In addition anthropologists have proven that H.S.S.(present species of hominds-You and me!!) diverged only 100,000 years ago, as the neandrothals were either conquered or became extinct. H.S.S. were defined to have dispersed from Africa, most likely in the Horn of Africa entering Asia, as well as Europe and comingling(if you know what I mean).
Thus we are biologically, and intrinsically in every way more interrelated then ever previously thought, and we are all in the medical, biological, and anthropological sense, one race. Therefore there is no real, "racism" in the sense that it has been misused in contemporary terms. People can be defined as diverse, and unique by their personality, their heritage, and their culture, yet physically we are all H.S.S., with varying characteristics escribed to us during the process of genetic evolution....
So yes there is discrimination against peoples religions, peoples origions, the color of the skin, their societal status economic and otherwise, and in essence their very idenities. This is wrong, yet in every culture American or otherwise discrimination exists...In the workplace, in schools, on job applications, at Universities... Unfortunatley we have not evolved mutual feelings of respect, compassion, and understanding....Without such values perhaps all of our adaptative mechanisms which have evolved will be put to waste as human kind continues to destroy one another because of differences. Diversity is beautiful, it is why we are here today, and it is what, if honored, will keep us alive in the future...
In peace,
Your fellow H.S.S.
Peace
Ruth

Racism in cultures and races
May 29, 2003 - 09:19 AM
|
|
I live in a very culturally diverse community, Alice Springs, In Central Australia. I see so much racism it makes me feel ill. Not only is there alot of racism between white 'Australian' and the indigenous people of the area but also amongst full aboriginal (indigenous australian) and lighters skinned aboriginals who may have a white father and aboriginal mother. I believe this is worse than any thing else. People of the same race disliking each other is terrible. Reconciliation can not happen until every one can get along or if not get along, except peoples differences.

Racism is a very tough issue, because even though we try our hardest not to discriminate, we naturally do so subconsciously. The power comes in how rooted our racial discriminations are, and what we choose to do about them.

Work and Race
August 26, 2004 - 08:11 AM
|
|
The most difficult aspect of race is that it is an economic construct. Race in the American context was created by three 17th century laws that linked color to
work status, the first a distinction in color, the second,
servitude by birth, and third no citizenship. The social
protocols, including violence followed suit. We're not in the 17th century but there are still incentives to create
a permanent underclass, that's why there are problems at
work. It's not individuals as much as it is a conditioned response.
Solutions:
champion team success by building incentives around team performance. People discriminate because it feels good, and you are rewarded for appearing more confident and effective. Being thought of as "better than someone is a social reward."
champion diversity training(accepting and utilizing differences for effective communication without stereotypes or prejudice)as way to achieve work place goals.
recognize discriminatory practices perpetuated by traditionally 'victimized groups',this levels the playing field. Eg. How come we don't uniformly include child abuse as domestic violence when too many children are abused by female guardians, parents.
stick to predetermined, merit based criteria in hiring practices
for individuals dealing with discrimination, (that's all of us) develop contingency plans as part of your career plan.
(example, I know as a ***** I will experience discrimination in service so I make it a point to meet the managers at establishments on orientation day for a job or program. I'm usually carrying flowers (for myself), and I ask about something diet, or industry related, make conversation, smile and shake their hand like i've known them for years. I'll put on this show in front of the workers so they'll understand who they're dealing with, right away. It's harder to offend someone you think is your bosses' friend.)
