The United States maintains public libraries, schools, and health care for its own citizens. It ought not to have to bear the premium of having to serve illegal immigrants.

However, emergency services ought be provided for all persons.

Actually, we need to consider the ongoing debate on illegal migration to the United States :

In 2004, United States President George W. Bush proposed a guest worker program to absorb migrant laborers who would otherwise come to the U.S. as illegal aliens. However, the details were left to legislators. In 2005, the Congress began creating legislation to change the current illegal immigration policies. The legislation approved by the U.S. House of Representatives led to massive protests (see 2006 United States immigration reform protests, Illegal immigration to the United States). These protests were symptomatic of a national debate in the U.S., over the criminalization of illegal aliens, forms of legalization and naturalization for those who entered illegally, and a proposed wall along the 2,000 mile border with Mexico.

We do not have to forget also that the United States was eventually founded on migrants !

True. The United States was founded by immigrants. Which does not mean any Tom, Dick, and Harry can walk right in and claim benefits from the state. It's not a free-for-all party.

I know it doesn't affect me too much being the other side of the sea and all, but these illegal immigrants...
aren't they the same ones that are the backbone of the US' economy? the workers and manual labours which actually contribute a large amount? (even if taxes aren't paid, they still provide services, and the employers who do pay taxes immorally fleece their workers, so the employers have a lot to tax)

Anyway thats just a side thought.

In terms of healthcare and emergency medicine I'd strongly disagree... everyone deserves good health. I suppose I say that as I was brought up in a welfare state and want to be a Doctor for the NHS (national health service)
Still though, good health should be an undeniable human right.

Public schools, and libraries... is it possible to join these without showing you're in the country illegally anyway? If not then there's nothing to argue as no one does it.
If you can join, well I feel it should still be allowed, America has signed up to the convention of the rights of the child (although you haven't ratified it, as the Texas still wants to sentence people who committed crimes as teenagers to death and all...)
but anyway, that states that:
Article 28
1. States Parties recognize the right of the child to education, and with a view to achieving this right progressively and on the basis of equal opportunity

I feel it shouldn't matter if the children weren't born in your country, it's not like they decided it smile The fact is they are there now, and they should be allowed to exercise their civil right to education.

I don't think that illegal immigrants should be denied health care and such. I think that they should pay taxes though but I understand that is pretty much impossible considering the illegal immigrants are paid under the table. I think that it is unfair that if I have an emergency and go the ER and I have health insurance, that an immigrant may go before me. I do not agree with that part but I do not think that they should be denied. I don't think that we should kick them all out though. My thought is that I would not want to do most of the jobs that they are doing. I personally would not want to be working out in a field picking crops all day. So to me, I think they can stay here. I do not think that they are taking American jobs either. If an American citizen wants to get a job, they can and I don't think that an immigrant will be hired over them. If I am wrong, please let me know.

This is 1 main issue affecting the united states of America today.
Well,am not an immigrant but i still have that human blood flowing in me.
I see this issue as a very intresting 1 and to me itz seem very unfair for illegal immigrants to be denied all those benefits, because we all know that the USA of today was made by immigrants and they are still making things happen for the states.
If you have to deny illegal iimigrants there human rights then I see no reason why the united states should belong to the united Nations.
More so,If you call them illegal then find them and send them parking from the states and lets see how the USA will look like aftermath.
If you say they dont pay tax or they increase crime rate in the country , then stop regarding them as ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS and see if the crime rate will reduce and also see if they wont pay taxes.
We have to be considerate in all our doings and alwayz have Human sympathy too.

I believe that Illegal immigrants should be denied all government services that are supplied to CITIZENS of this country. Here is a thing to think about: Say the emergency room in a hospital had no more room for operation or that it was going to take three hours for your dad, who just had a heart attack, to get into the emergency room, and say that one of those emergency room spots was taken by an illegal immigrant, who is not a rightful citizen to this country and is taking away from the health care provided to lifelong citizens of this country. Is it fair? Absolutely not!

What if you are an illegal immigrant who fled his country due to safety reasons and your father just had a heart attack but is denied health services because he is an illegal immigrant. I believe that illegal immigrants should be given health services but citizens priority

I dont think there should be any special treatment for illegal immigrants. It is understandable that people want to leave third world countries, but they need to do it in a lawful way. Many people migrate to the US through Visas and greencards and obtain recidency. I don't think illegal immigrants should be rewarded by being given healthcare and the rest of the priviledges that legal citizens and residents enjoy.

Clearly you have never applied for a visa or a green card, it’s not like renting a movie. I understand that people pay taxes for these services and its unfair for illegal immigrants to using them. But I hope you agree that if somebody is dying or in serious need of these services they shouldn’t be turned away. Its a very complicated issue, in my eyes there is not one clear solution and the only thing that can be done is to find a middle ground. A way to stop illegal immigrants from using unnecessary public services without completely shunning them from help.

Actually I have applied for both a student Visa, and Permanent recidency, and will soon apply for citizenship. This is why I feel the way I do. I think that everyone has the right to come to this country if they choose, but it shouldn't be done illegally.
As for the emergency medical patient, sure, I don't think that someone should be left to die simply because they are not a citizen, i do have a heart... but at the same time, I dont agree with services being given to them. If that were the case, immigrants would have no reason to go through the tedious process of applying for recidency/citizenship through the government.

You are very lucky to have the residency and hopefully the citizenship. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I feel strongly about this subject because of family members who are good hardworking people and would like nothing more than to pay taxes and be here legally

I agree with SV7201, it is a complicated subject but speaking ill and shunning illegal immigrants is not going to solve anything

wow! and you want to become a citizen of a country that was built on immigrants? that's a shame that you out of all people who are not a native of the US condem illegal immigrants for trying to escape to a better life. sure to you the whole visa issue was tedious but... have you ever stopped for a moment to think about what these families go through when they do not have the resources or means to pay for the fees? better yet some lose their lives trying to make it to the US.
