tests, are they fair????
April 1, 2003 - 07:43 AM

I don't think they are. A student should be graded on tests but on how the student does its work. Some people know the material, and when it comes to tests, their minds just go blank.

What do you think???

COME ON!! Be fair to the teachers!! They have to grade us on something more than just homework...I think if people study hard enough and know their material, tests wouldnt be so frustrating!! But on the other hand, maybe teachers should think of different kinds of tests, like oral tests instead of just sitting down and writing frantically, students wont be so tense!

I agree with Nina, it would be an excellent idea if teachers tried to give a wider variety of tests. But I do not agree that if you study the material you are getting tested on, you will do well.

u guys may have a point but still. i test can bring down your whole mark sometimes. the problem usually isn't that u didn't study but that u got nervous, because their is so much pressure on you. im allrite with test but i hate having big unit tests at the end of the term. sometimes there worth like 30% of ur term or somethin. and the teachers could find different ways in marking students so that they don't have as much stress.

HOMEWORK!!!
April 4, 2003 - 10:15 AM

Sukhpreet!! Think Carefully... If teachers dont give us so many tests, what do you expect them to mark? HOMEWORK. The less tests we have, the more homeowrk we will get. Personally, I would rather study than do homework...AND I THINK YOU WOULD TOO!!

you missed what I meant

Im not saying that their shouldn't be tests. Im just saying that their shouldn't be big unit tests. The teachers should have smaller test even if their are more, and different types of tests.

But for some students test are very stressful.

There should be tests
April 5, 2003 - 05:45 AM

I think there should be tests because if your teacher was only to mark your homework and you do good they will suspect that you are getting help from someone.

Therefore a test is needed because it is to see if you really undertsand the material or if you are just getting help from someone.

Homework is not a fair way for techers to judge students. Sometimes kids take their homework home they do a wonderful job, but then when they're at school their work isnt so good. It makes me wonder if children go home and get help from family members! This isnt fair to all the honest people who work hard for their grades.

I also think that students all across Ontario should get the same tests in their schools. If this was so, the way the teachers mark us would be more fair. Everyone would be graded on the same thing so its not possible for people in one school to get an easier test than those in another school.

I think tests are fair. Well, i don't think anyone likes them , but i think tests are the only way to see if a student truly acknoledges what he/she has learned. I mean, students can copy one and other in homework or projects but tests are totally independent.
However, tests are not fair if the content is something the students did not learn yet or is taught unclearly by the teachers.

I think that school should be more fun. It can be fun by playing many different games that can be bothe fun and eductional so that the students would be more interested which can make them learn and have fun at the same time.

there are differnt opinions to whether tests re fair to us students. but as a student, i actually think that tests are fair to us. tests are given out to us, so that teachers would know where our skills and abilities are and will be heading. teachers need to give us marks for our report cards so they would need to give out tests in order for them to record the marks that we have scored. it is a way to prove and to show where a student is standing in the school learning community.

tests can show teachers whether they know their materials and whether if they have studied or not studied throughtout the test. if students know their information and had studied, then therefore they wouldnt have trouble accomplishing the test. tests and quizzes are a way to help teachers understand how we're doing on our education. so i think that tests are fair to us.
