Our children are dying every day because of hunger/poverty. The governments of various countries promised to eradicate poverty by the year 2015. Can they meet these target? What do we do to make sure that one of this millenuim development goal is met.

It is unbelievable that governments do all they promised. Just come back to 15 years ago when they promise to create a better world in 21 century.

Actually , i think that even if the governments were not quite very active, or didn't keep their promises concerning a better world, we the citizens can do something about that, we can co-operate for the better world, and for saving the children , eradication of extreme poverty , we might or might not be able to achieve it by 2015 , but at least when we reach 2015 we can say "we did our best , and tried".
i usually speak generally about human being and not specificly about children, because if we achieved the sought goals generally it will positively reflect on the specifics..
I think that children are a great catalyst for a real forward steps to a better world, for human race generally and children specificly.

The hard fact is that in most of the developing nations, those mostly hit by the poverty situation, the decision about eradicating poverty is alost completely left in the hands of Government and its machineries. Most of those in the corridors of pover never really feel the pang of poverty, are never hungry and so their children are in a sense, never exposed to the danger of extinction.
The thing to do is get more people involved in the decision making process of government that affects the vast majority.
Getting government to focus on the MDGs is the sole preserve of all. People should stand up and form coalitions of like minds. Be it NGOs, CBOs or even small community based organizations and outline their agenda. Let every one of these organizations use the local resources at their disposal to mobilize for a developmental action and then they can later make their voices heard.
It is only then that they can get the attention of government to influence legislations, developmental progvrammes that are in line with the achievement of the MDGs.
If we all sit down and hope that those in government circles would ordinarily do what is right for the vast majority, we are mistaken.
The way I see it, it is the less priviledged in society that face the risk of extinction, not those whose parents control state funds that they have converted for personal use.
The time to act is now, form a community based organization today!

The one truly pragmatic approach to poverty has been developed by Dr. Yunus of Bangladesh.
Microfinance empowers communities and gives them confidence and incentive. Unlike aid, which is demeaning, condescending, and confidence-eroding, microfinance shows true promise in helping alleviate poverty.

2015 target is not possible. Well to meet just one we will be looking at 2020 then every 5 years thereafter to meet another one. It will be one goal every 5years
We have to look at the zeal and commitment towarsd meeting the goal, this i cant see from any angle.
How i wish it will be possible to meet these set out goals in 2020.

I think that it could start in your haouse today the knowledge that there is hunger in the world is wildely known but not much people do things about it. when somebody says dont waste food there is people that are dying take it more seriously and when you save food you save money. so you can donate this money to an ngo who provides food to others.
