I clicked "I believe in evolution" but not in the sense that Life just poped up out of nowhere. If you look at DNA there are only 4 building blocks in all the life on Earth, both plant and animal, and all of that Life shares some of the same chains of DNA. If life just poped up would not there be different DNA building blocks and would there not be life that had no shared chains of DNA. Me, I believe God pushed the Evolution of life, with the Hope that one day we would grow into something like Him/Her, that He could go fishing with or share a joke or better still travel with through the Universe(Heavens).

Well, it's good to see at least 66% of the viewers of this forum believe in Evolution, or Natural Selection. It is the only theory for everything we see on this Earth that fits the evidence we have found. God is the lazy man's explanation for everything. We used to be told God made everything. Now we are being told he only started Evolution. That's a big step backwards from omnipotence and the claims made in the Bible and the Koran. Maybe someday we will be able to abandon that last refuge of the religionists.

The next poll should probably be 'Do you believe in gravity?' Pointless.

This thread seems to be more appropriate in the Culture and Identity Forum , hence it is moved from Environment and Urbanisation forum to this board.
Cheers,

Yes I believe in the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution is based on scientific findings, rather than beliefs. Evidence: The Turkana Boy, a skeleton of a boy found in Kenya. Through analysis, this boy was believed to be 12 years old when he died an estimated 1.5 MILLION years ago. Now the Christian faith believes that the earth was created 12,000 years ago and man 6,000 years after that. Now that is a little bit of a contradiction.

I absolutly believe in evolution. Evolution has been based on archaelgical findings which are then supported by scientific fact. Timelines can be constructed by using technological advances such as carbon dating "which counts the abundance of particular carbon atoms in a specamine and through this scientists can find how old an artifact is rather accuratley. ' evolution can be explained using this technique along with corelations of everything from skeletal remains, to effects left on the earth by early organisms. im not saying that god dosent exist, i believe he does but people who believe that humans were created a few thousand years ago by god pulling out a Rib from Adam and creating Eve from it really need to take a look at scientific evidence and keep an open mind.

(Fundamentalist) Christians extrapolate the age of the universe by following the list of Jesus's ancestors listed in the New Testament of the Bible and adding 2007. See:
http://www.ethicalatheist.com/docs/young_earth_age.html
Any reasonable person can tell you this is impossible. The Earth is much older than that and there is more than enough time for the inexorable march of simpler organisms up to complex organisms which is Darwin's Theory of Natural Selection or Evolution.

The similarities between plants and animals (and all life, when you get down to it) supports evolution in my eyes. 25% of our genes are the same as a banana, which tells me that I'm distantly related to said banana. In fact, I've got introns and ribosomes that look curiously like the archaeobacterial versions, which says I'm even more distantly related to them too. Everything on Earth is related (OK, almost everything, but only because of weird stuff like prions and probably some of the viruses) and the only way I can explain it is if everything evolved from a common ancestor.
