I want to know who cares about gentrification, which is surely one piece of globalization. I am passionate about neighborhoods, which often get overlooked in the globalization conversation.
Take Hell's Kitchen, NYC as one great example. A stellar neighborhood almost completely gentrified today. This is part of the globalization story.

Nabe Lover: Globalisation which has the alternate spelling of Globalization is a General Term that has many different meanings because of how people use the word in different ways. Gentrification is a word with a much more specific meaning. Globalisation really has nothing to do with Gentrification but if someone wishes to make the definition broad there is nothing wrong because of the way the world already misuses the word.
Globalisation many times is used with negative association as with the attempt of Capitalism to become the dominant way of the World subjected to a World Economy which would pressure all countries to take on Capitalistic Models or face being left out of the World's Market.
Many people still think of Globalisation as being within a more interconnected world. The problem is that then everything within the generalized term would be accepted as within the definition. The economy of a neighborhood is far less complex than many Global Businesses which deliver goods to a neighborhood. The changes within a Society that allow for a neighborhood to rise or fall are less dependent on a Global Scale as they are on what types of business and work is available in the local area to the individuals and groups that make up the neighborhood. Each neighborhood around the world would be too diverse to be included within a general view.
