Folks, I want to know your view on the issue of youth awareness on the spread of HIV/AIDS as a result of indulgence in extramarital affairs, especially on Valentine's Day.

I think that's a good topic to ponder. I think there is definitely a lack of awareness and information about HIV. Myths still persist about the disease. Sexual promiscuity and not practicing safer sex definitely contributes to the spread of HIV. I think if a teen has made the choice to have sex outside of a marital or domestic partnership, he or she should be educated about how to reduce the risk of being infected with HIV. It sounds like this is a topic more teenagers would be interested in learning. www.youthventure.org is a cool website that will help youth 12-20 start their own organization or project to better their community in some way. What about someone starting an organization that educates teens and young people about the dangers of unprotected sex and of being promiscuous? Just a thought.

well if your stupid enough to "do it" without protection that your really asking for it. i think v-day should be spent just with dinners, flowers and chocolates. and not everyone "does it" on v-day. it is the day of love, but not that far. and you'd have to be a pretty messed up person to want to spread hiv/aids especially if you know you have it. i just don't think that sex has to be a important part of v-day. it's just about being with the people you love.

[b]Thai teens keen for Valentine's Day sex By Panarat Thepgumpanat
Tue Feb 13, 2:05 AM ET
BANGKOK, Feb 13 (Reuters Life!) - A third of Thai teenage girls think Valentine's Day is an excellent time to lose their virginity, and police in Bangkok are out to stop them.
Police in the capital, famous around the world for its fleshpots, will enforce a 10 p.m. curfew on February 14 after a poll of teenagers was published last week.
Love-struck teenagers would be sent home or taken to a police station to wait for their parents to fetch them on Wednesday night, Bangkok Deputy Police Chief Kamol Kaewsuwan said.
"Love is nice and beautiful, but it does not necessarily involve sexual engagement. Teenagers would do better focusing on school," Kamol said of the curfew.
Police would also be on the look out for public displays of affection by under-18 youths hanging out in shopping malls, cinemas and other entertainment venues on Valentine's Day.
"Hugging and kissing in public places are indecent," said Police Colonel Chokechai Deeprasertvith, who heads a special unit to fight crimes against children, youths and women.
The Assumption University poll of 1,578 teenagers published last week found one third of teenage girls were willing to have sex on Valentine's Day if their boyfriends asked.
Another survey of 1,222 youths by the University of Thai Chamber of Commerce found 11 percent planned to lose their virginity on Wednesday night. Nearly 51 percent said they would not have sex.
It's not the first time predominantly Buddhist Thailand has tried a social order crusade popular with the middle class, many of whom are uncomfortable with public sexuality and support moves to rein in anything-goes Bangkok.
A short-lived 2004 morality campaign under former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra cut the operating hours of go-go bars, nightclubs and massage parlors despite warnings it would hit the country's lucrative tourist trade.
Recently, university student and budding movie starlet Chotiros Suriyawong was rebuked for wearing a revealing sexy black dress to Thailand's version of the Oscars.
"Society feels this is a disgrace and her actions have affected the reputation of this university," Suraphol Nitikraipot, rector of the prestigious Thammasat University, was quoted as saying by the Nation newspaper on Tuesday.
Yet this is what will happen in Thailand Tomorrow!Have a sex free VALENTINES day wont you?

Valentine day signifies Love, a day we need to show love to those that are really in need of love, Youths or adolescent are more likely to seize this opportunity to involve themselves in unprotected sex. But i will advice young boys and girls to use this opportunity to show love to the poor, the need and to people leaving with HIV/AIDS, not to use it to achieve a selfish aim.
Valentine day could be an opportunity for you and I to reach people at social gathering and preach Abstinence, Being Careful and Proper use of condom(ABC), Zipping UP and Staying Alive to be Alive!. We could use this opportunity to have a youth gathering so that we can build more peer health educators on a more social and unique atmospherein the name of valentine.
I wish you all a hapy val!
Regards!

I think that if people are stupid enough to not have their partner checked and "do it" without protection, they deserve to get HIV/AIDS. But who cares if they "do it" on Valentines day. It is their business. As long as I don't get HIV/AIDS from someone that has it I really don't care about it. It is their fault for getting AIDS and we should stop feeling bad about it and make them take care of it themselves.
