You are pratically correct, but then one must have passion for something before going to it into pratical.
So whatever once career maybe, MUST have passion of it FIRST than doing it forcing to earn cash.

I THINK BOTH ARE DEPENDENT CATEGORY, IN OUR LIFE WE NEED PASSION SOMEWHERE AND PRACTICAL SOMEWHERE, THEY HELP EACH OTHER FOR THE COMPLETITION OF A CERTAIN TASK. THOUGH I GIVE PRIORITY TO PRACTICAL ONE BECAUSE PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE LETS US KNOW WHAT WE DO.
it can be cleared through the chinese proverb "IF I HEAR, I FORGET",IF I SEE, I REMEMBER",AND "IF I DO,I KNOW" --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- sun-e-boy

Practicality or Passion ?
You raise a very interesting point and as a career changer and a active job seeker, I can utilize my experience to shed some light on the topic – careers.
I think practicality and passion are not mutually exclusive – perhaps passion and boredom or practicality and unrealistic. In either case, I understand your question. There is a trade off involved. I would state that there are many other factors to consider while selecting a career. It is seldom that we are faced with only two options. Some of the major factors involved in career development are:
• Interest – your personal interest of course have to be taken into consideration.
• Earnings – Earnings play a very important role in selecting potential careers. Most people are willing to forgo fulfillment and job satisfaction in exchange for monetary rewards.
• Employability, that is the market demand of a job. This varies widely with types of job. Certain jobs belong to new and emerging industry and as such may have limited employability while others have traditionally enjoyed high employability, namely, accounting.
• Future job outlook – also is a key factor to consider while selecting career. Not all jobs have a growth outlook. Advents in new processes, new technology can make certain jobs obsolete while giving rise to new other jobs.
• Academic requirements – refer to academic requirements that must be met to successfully perform the job.

• Stress load / work hours - refers to the amount of work hours you are willing to put in to be successful in your career. Not all jobs are 9 to 5. Many careers will require you to work late hours, to travel extensively, to continuously learn. As a result creating large amount of stress.
• Social need / requirement: There are innumerable social needs that go unmet due to lack of qualified professionals. Taking into consideration social needs within the community within which you would like to work is best practice. In general, assessing the social impact of any career is a good practice.
In addition to taking the above factors into consideration, you must also perform self assessment. Self assessment exercise will help you identify:
• your strengths
• your weaknesses
• your working style
• your work environment preference and more.
The entire exercise will be highly insightful and provide you with career paths you never considered or knew about. There are number of online assessment sites, most notably Myer Briggs and Focus. You should consult with your career office department of your university / college regarding good assessment tools.

In my opinion, I think if I held on to a job because it pays well, and it's practical, I would eventually get bored of the routine work. If it's something I don't really enjoy, then I wouldn't be able to put my heart into it. My mom took the practical route and tells me now that I should follow my dreams and make it into reality by working hard.
On the other hand, I think if you do end up living the dream, and your passion becomes your job, it is possible for that to become boring after a number of years also. Both choices are good, but hard to choose.
