[Poll] Why do some feel more important than others?

it is very displeasing to find some people who by virtue of life privileges feel more important than others and with that insight they treat others with contempt and disdain. Especially those from the developing countries are treated unfairly, when it comes to gaining access to some privileges eg. scholarships and free grants to further thier education. All these happen because of the less privileges these people from the developing countries have. Please let us all strive together to put final stop to this menace. For all humans who are suppose to equal opportunities in life. Thanks: (

I think one can distinguish two cases.
One, when a person is grown up in an environment where, due to his/her social status (usually high), wealth, and family atmosphere, he/she is "made" to feel special. Some (strong individuals) manage to get out of this "cocone" and become more or less independent and uninfluenced by their millieu whereas others are unable to do so. An example would be a young man/woman coming from a well-known English aristocratic family treating other "commoners" with disdain.
But its not only those who are higher up on a society ladder (mostly in developed countries) who feel themselves important. There are those who come from poor countries with oppresed regimes who feel themselves equally important and behave arrogantly. This other type of self-importance, in my view, stems from the fact that these persons perceive their role in their society as of paramount importance and believe they can and will bring significant changes improving their country/society/family situation(s).
An example of this might include a young man/woman coming from a Middle Eastern region, say, for example, from Lebanon (I personally know one) who is very proud, self-important and as a consequence is quite arrogant.
Two, the matter of treatment must be discussed separately. Some people treat others according to their respective prejudices, stereotypes and other cognitive perceptions. Usually those who treat others will little respect and dignity because of their background, social status, or country of origin, are people of a narrow mind. Those people, as you implied, must be educated and shown that humans are all equal independently from race, ethnicity, and nationality.

It is nothing but truth that fingers are not equal even here in TIG are we treated the same? There are some groups in TIG that you can join as an African then tell me if everyone of us is not a member?
Let us not deceive ourselves time has come that everyone has to stand by his destiny.
Those at the top were not born with greatness but some were fortunate while some worked for it.
So what am I saying ? Your destiny is in your hand.
I shall like to you give two examples :
After the second war the Japaness worked hard and they became great hands in electronic.
Another example is Abraham Lincoln who refused to give up his ambition as American president at end he won.
Don't be satistified with little ; I know it not easy but keep trying and one day you will get there.
I have seen a little in the world that I have come . It is all over that some people feel superior than others but one thing is sure man as come with nothing and he will go back with nothing.

one reason can be the leagcy of colonisation and lack of development in third world countries. then in developed countries like usa and Britain there is alreday a backlash of sorts for moving jobs, outsourcing,to Asia and Africa.
Then often Asians are discriminated abroad for taking away jobs of locals.

Maybe because of different backgrounds and upbringing. We have differences in skills and talents, and I guess it's part of human nature to feel more important than the others. No one wants to be at the bottom. People will always look for somebody else who's below them so they won't pity themselves and will have a sense of pride.
I feel more important too sometimes but I know that there are others I can look up to and that I'm glad to listen to them and learn from them.
