Who's the driver of this cab?
January 15, 2007 - 07:56 AM

Most of you think that it takes a little effort. I don't agree or disagree with that. This might sound crazy but i've come to love suffering to some extent. This is the period when am most efficient with my resources. After recently being in serious need of something, i discovered that it takes me first, to get what i want. I tell you its not easy, coming to that conclusion wasn't easy and thats why i ask you to agree with me. Each of us should try to get the inner facts whether good or bad of why people or countries do things. Next, draw your line and stick to it. Don't go giving your thoughts in a topic you are only emotional about. Become your own driver. Take the wheel and try changing the facts or use bypasses. Stop being a passenger who can only hope, go faster mr driver or i just wish this taxi would in faster etc. Instead get the wheel, let others be the once who wish while you act. For those whining about mdg and g8 get the reasons why things are this way before you start your wishful thinking. Please be drivers.

i agree with you, its like follow the leaders and there are few leaders and alot of followers. Its one of those games that we use to play when we were little but have transformed the game into a way that we play it, different from when we are kids. Its not going to hurt to try new things, nor to be a leader instead of a follower, the most you can do is get rejected, then you just have to get up and try again.

I agree as well. The metaphor is just perfect since being a driver makes on more focused and aware of the world. The driver can see everything: infront, the rear, the side and even the ones inside. The driver knows the condition of the car s/he drives and the passenger s/he drives for. A good driver follows the rules as well but breaks it when it is about life and death situation. The driver also knows when it's time to rest and trains another driver to be his/her successor.

In Nigeria, we are gradually becoming the driver?

In the 90's, the world bank and several multi lateral institutions advised Nigeria and many other african countries to adopt the structural adjustment program popularly known as SAP and that we would go on a path of economy bouyancy. However, this did not worked, rather it almost crashed Nigeria's economy.

In the last 4 years, Nigeria has responded to challenges by taking the drivers seat, we have paid off most of our debts to the paris and london club.

We developed an home grown economic policy known as the National economic empowerment and development strategy and this has been accepted as Nigeria's version of the poverty reduction strategy paper. We have not made as much progress that we would love to make, but guys, we are moving forward our own way!

Cheers
Rotimi
