"CHURCH OF GOD? OR THE TEMPLES OF SATAN"

The "Church of God? or the Temples of Satan" is the title of a new book by the Gnostic author R. A. Anderson. It explains the errors of religion, and describes the true way to experience the Spirit of God within. I would like to hear the opinions of anyone who has read it - I think it will make an excellent discussion topic.

It is not compatable title of the book because satan is the first and biggest enemy of God an God believers that he can convence one that what he is doing is God orders
anyway you can summerise the book to discuss for who could not have and I think to have more beautifull books to discuss as youth have no time to read and we as old people can help then
salam (peace)

Religion is defined by anything you place the most importance on in your life.
What was the first 'Religion'?
Was it Christianity?

The books is about gnosis, an idea originally pondered by ancient Greeks such as Plato and Pythagoras. In my personal view, having heard some part of the interview with the author, it sounds interesting but not terribly new nor unconventional. He reiterates what is already known and I seemed to have the impression he was mostly rather unsure of what he was claiming.
No, Christianity was far from being the first religion. It was one of late-coming religions.
There is no name to put to first religions but many early socieites wirshipped usually the Great Goddess, thus a woman God, in one for or another form, independently from one another. A common reason for this given nowadays by scientists is that it was considerd a miracle to give birth to a human, and it took humans some time before they connected the two then seemingly independent facts of sexual intercourse and giving birth. So woman was viewed as miraculous and mysterious, thus worshipped.
Worshipped were also all Gods connected with one or another aspect of nature: wind, rain. fire, earth, sky.
Anyhow, not to deviate too much. Gnosis is an interesting prospecitve of lifeview and i highly recommend you read about it, starting from its Greek origins to Noeplatonists to Romans to Christinaity as its final stop.
Hope this clarifies.
H.

I agree with what you say. Gnosis is a very important subject which should be fully understood by all who wish to progress towards Spiritual fulfilment. I can fully recommend reading "Church of God? or the Temples of Satan" as the ideal starting place for one's search.

I always found myself interested at religion topic. God and Satan? Two completely different words and opposite each other. According to what I’ve learnt in my religious study, Satan is a creature created by God. People should believe that. But something that make me confused, if people believe that satan has a lower level than God, then why people believe in satan and start to do disruptive things? This shift of belief ness has nothing to do with the existence of the religions exist in the history of human life. This issue is highly influenced by the way of thinking that denied the existence of God. Religion is a form ‘spirit organization’ that moderate people to do good things in preserving the humanity. So, even though I haven’t found such a controversial book, I believe that my ideas and opinion is reliable enough.

Without falling into the trap that so many communists do fall into I want to put foreward that the Bible as humans know it is just a book written by humans. Even if it is the divine words of God, the book itself was created by human beings and has been revised, purged, censored and changed more than an CIA report on Guantanamo Bay.
Whether or not God and the Devil exist is a matter of faith really and while religion may have errors it also inspires critical and imaginitive thinking which has created great things as well as creating massive, destructive wars to rid the world of the "heathens"

Actually 'satan' is not really a 'creature', it is simply our own unenlightened (carnal) mind - indeed our greatest enemy, from whence comes all greed, lust, selfishness, hatred, envy, confusion, lies, etc.
There is nothing evil in this world that did not originate in the mind of mankind - the real satan!

andy1945, are you saying that mankind is satan? *
Most certainly it is the UNENLIGHTENED, CARNAL, 'LOWER' MIND of man/woman which is satan (Hebrew = an adversary, enemy). There is no other cause of evil that exists in this world.
It is the purpose to become ENLIGHTENED into the HIGHER ('SPIRITUAL') MIND that we live on Earth.

Satan only exist for those who allow him to exist through their poor thinking which normally, each an every of us must mornitor what taught should come into our minds..just like a receptionist are keep to watch who and kind of person that enters into the boss office
Guess when everyone will be having clear mind and taughts torwards each other, I mean the world will become like paradize where positive taughts are our priorities and not cheating, ill taught, hatred, bit-biting and all manner of evil...which ourselves creat calling it satan....hmm some saying satan at work....and it only exist in such person's imaginations.

Try Sam Harris or Richard Dawkins work. They're pretty good atheistic opinions.
