Half Time of the MDG:s, let´s use it!

During 2008, it will mark the half time between the MDG-conference in September 2001 when they agreed on the goals and 2015, when the goals should be reached.
I´ve launch a new project to show all the development within the goals. And release it during a campaign during news year.
One idea that I got is to produce a magazine with stories from all over the world about development and interesting things. This magazine could be printed and distributed with the help of UNDP.
The project "Half time 2008" will run during whole of 2008. The goals are to inspire organizations, governments and companies to work harder to reach the goals 2015.
Do you want to be a part of the project? Do you have ideas about activities? Join the project at http://projects.takingitglobal.org/halftime2008.
Regards
Jonas Eriksson

Thanks for showing interest in the Millemium Development Goals (MDG). I also have an interest in the same are and you may wish to read my blog on the same.
Since i come from a developing country and specifically Kenya, it goes without saying that the road towards the achievement of the Millenium Developmenty Goals by the year 2015 might be a pipe dream. Many countries in Africa and other parts of the world have fallen short of meeting these standards when evaluated within the half time 2008 time period.
Most countries in the developing world lack the requisite financial resources to facilitate programs on health, education, poverty reduction, unemployment, infrastrcutural development, HIV/Aids control alongside combating other deadlly diseases etc.
The support from their development partners has not been easily forthcoming and when funds are remitted, they are often accompanied by stringent rules and regulations as well as high interest rates for repayment.
It is however noteworthy that some countries and Kenya for example have initiated programs towards poverty reduction and enahnce primary education.
The concept of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) adopted by the Kenya National Assembly (KNA) has made remarkable strides in enhancing equitable resource allocation as well as sopporting programs on education, health, infrastructure and water within the expansive provinces of Kenya.
Further, the commencement of Free Primary Education (FPE) in all Kenyan public schools was a move in the right direction and as such this has seen an astronomical increase in primary school attendance in kenya especially amongst the marginalized communities and poverty stricken areas as was entailed in the National Poverty Index (NPI).
The above is a welcome move but efforts must be harnessed towards meeting the MDG through cocerted effort of all development partners and all those party to the MDG agreement within the United Nations Umbrella.

Thank you Kip for your reply.
I´ve seen many of the data about the evaluation and that it looks that most of the goals not going to be reached. And I know some of the work beeing done in Kenya since my visit in 2005.
But I think that we have the capacity to change the wheel and make the world work towards the same goals, the MDG:s. And I think we can use the symbolic value of the half time to highligth the positive stories, the current need and the way out of it.
I think we need to make 2008 the year of change, the year when we all joined in to make the dream come true. The MDG:s should be law for every human in the world and our common responsibilty.
Let´s build the world we want!
Most regards Jonas Eriksson
