For the past month or so.. there has been a flu going around called SARS. This flu can kill you becuase there is no cure for it so far. You can get it just by being in the same room as someone with the disease. The symptions are:Fever (over 38 degrees Celsius),coughing, shortness of breath, and difficulty breathing.

Ontario has reported a total of 10 cases of SARS. Five of these cases (A to E) occurred in a single extended family. The index case had recently returned from Hong Kong SAR. An additional case (F), occurred in a family physician who had close contact with three of the ill family members. A person (G) who occupied an emergency room bed next to one family member also became ill. The final two cases included in this summary (H and I) are a family member of G and an individual who is thought to have developed SARS as a result of close contact with one of the hospitalized cases.

The big issue now is that diseases can be spread so rapidly through air travel... it'll get harder and harder to contain diseases if people can get anywhere in the world (more or less) within 24 hours.

Totally. It is crazy.
Working downtown Vancouver, there are so many people with AIDS, hepatitus and so forth. It is only going to take time before that is going to spread to outer suburbia.
They say Vancouver looks like Africa looked like 20 years ago.

The problem with highly infectious diseases like Ebola is that someone could technically contract the disease, get on a plane and then spread it to a far-off place, and not realize it until the incubation period was over. Diseases like AIDS have a slower spread but gradually encroach upon more and more territory. These diseases tend also to remain a problem for a longer time because they are chronic diseases that are long-lasted and don't result in the immediate death of the patient...

Sally... You're SAD that school closed?!?!?!?! what the......
And I'd say the only problem with SARS is its contagiousness (who cares if its a word right spelling)
1 person gets it, 2 people, 4, 8, 32 and so on, do you people think that we can stop this garbage?

I don't think that it can be stoped. In my opinion the best thing that could happen is that they find a cure for sars that actually works, and then people wouldn't be so worried about getting it, and sars might be treated like something as simple as chicken pox.

I hope that SARS slows down ... at the same time, it's best not to freak out about it, because the risk of anyone getting SARS is very small, even in Toronto. It's been mostly in hospital environments so far anyways. And as of yet, there have only been 146 cases of SARS in Ontario. 146 people out of several million - pretty small odds of getting the disease.
To prevent getting it, you don't necessarily need a mask, just typical health precautions like hand-washing!
