Should surrogate mothering be encouraged ?
surrogation is on the verge of becoming a booming industry here in India with many women going for it to make the ends meet !
BJP MP draws attention to alarming rise of surrogate mothers
New Delhi, Dec 15: BJP MP in Lok Sabha today drew attention of the Government to the alarming rise of surrogate mothers in the country and sought a debate on the issue.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Sumitra Mahajan of BJP said that with the process of globalisation, the trend of surrogate mother's had also entered into the country.
Taking a plea of the country's culture, the BJP MP called for an immediate attention about this new trend saying a thorough debate was needed to see its repurcussion on the socio-cultural and enhinicity of the nation.
The case of surrogated mothers need a serious debate and the government should start discussions with the social thinkers, constitutional experts and doctors before formalising a policy on this issue.

was thinking the same esp after reading about the issue in sunday papers. in some cases where the surrogate mother is a realtive then it might be due to concern for the family. lending one's womb for money seems unethical.why we make women face all the difficulties and sacrifies for the family?n parts of Gujarat it is becoming an organised trade .but real emotions are attached to it as a woman bears the child for full nine months and may face serious emotional pangs or guilt. ithe mere idea is nerve wrecking. there must be soem law to deal with the issue in the first place.

this whole concept of surrogate motherhood is quite complicated and to decide whether it should be encouraged or not would depend on the circumstance. if a mother is unfit to bear child or her life is at risk, then it is a difficult decision to make. Likewise one can adopt a child if the need be. but for it to become business is something that is inconceivable.
people will start massive trafficking of wombs... it already has.. middlemen take advantage of the poor women who are trying to fend for their families and make money out of it. its worse than human trafficking.

I feel that adoption is a much better and less complicated way to have children.
Though only last week i talked to a friend who is a mother of two chlidren and wants to be a surrogate mother for her family friend who is chlidless.
The family friend has helped her a lot in her time of need and hence she wants to repay them this way.
People have their own reasons . I think its a personal decision for some
but
those who are making money out of it should surely not be encouraged. Adoption seems a much much much better option according to me.

Surrogate mothering shoudl be encouraged because in my opinion it depends totalyl on the situation. What if a mother has an illness that could be passed on through birth, liek the actualy delivery, then a surrogate mother is an amazing invention, idea, and possiblity. Someone mentioned how attached a person would become to a baby growing inside them for 9 months, but the that woman is well aware of the agreement she made, that she would give birth to non-bioligical baby that is not hers. If a woman were to get emotional attached, she could make agreements with the family to see the child.
oo sorry
ill finishe writing later, im about to miss my bus!
