Many websites share details of chemicals which drugs have. It is the impact of these chemicals which make people become dependent. Also , with the increasing tolerance levels, your body requires higher amount of drugs to get the "high". Here are some of the things found:
1. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC):A tetrahydrocannabinol - delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol - is the main psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
2. GHB
Gammahydroxybutyrate (GHB, but commonly known as GBH, grievous bodily harm, liquid E, liquid X, gamma-O) is an anaesthetic/sedative...
Small amounts of GHB make you feel relaxed, happy and less inhibited. Some people say that the effects are rather like those of ecstasy, though the drug has more in common with a depressant/downer such as alcohol. Larger amounts lead to drowsiness and sedation. The effects come on after about 10 minutes and can last a day or more.
GHB has been used by body-builders because it encourages the secretion of growth hormone by the brain.
3. Hallucinogen: A drug that alters your perceptions and produces hallucinations, distorting reality. LSD, magic mushrooms and ecstasy are all hallucinogens, though ecstasy can also be classed as a stimulant.

There has been a misconceived fact that when you get on drugs it will be an uphill task to discontinue....but with the right conviction and attitude, one can overcome.

imagine that u been in aplace u felt very good in or more near example ate a very delicios food u like wont u like to re do this this is because of working over reward system in brain which involuntary explain increased dopamine thae main neurotransmitter in the rweward system and the target of tmost drugs giving u a pleasant trip u like to repeat but the effect decrease with time and u have to increase dose and u become totally dependant on the external dopamnine stimulators and cont feel that natural dopamine level is enough this is state of physical dependence
i tried to simply explain wat i learned about addiction

Current scientific models show that many different factors interact together to produce addiction. These include:
- family history
- genetics
- gender
- social/cultural context (e.g. many Canadians are addicted to caffeine despite its mild nature largely because this is a culturally promoted drug)
- possible environmental stressors
- type of drug
There are also different levels and types of addiction. The DSM IV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual) differentiates between physical addictions and psychological addictions although it's noted that these can be problematic categories. DSM also differentiates between substance use, substance abuse and substance dependency. It is possible to be abuse drugs without developing dependence. Some people can heavily use hard drugs like cocaine and heroine (to the point where their everyday functioning is disrupted) without becoming addicts. Of course, there's no surefire way of telling beforehand whether one will develop a dependency or not.
More info at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health
Hope this helps! Addiction is a really complicated issue it seems to me.

Most the people that are addited to drugs use them so that they can do what they can't do when they are not on drugs. They believe that drugs will enpower them to do what they can't do but that is not the best. It is good for someone to build up self determination without using drugs. This will encourage one to do better than before.

As far as I know drugs are addictive because some receptors (sorry but I have no experience translating scientifique German) in your brain become used to them. Thus your body actually generates a feeling of need for the drug.
This is just a biological / chemical point of view.

as alredy shared in one of the posts, addiction is also linked to psychological and social factors.
The availability of drug, peer pressure, distressing situations and need to take control or distract from distress are also important factors.
Often people taking drugs have thinking patterns like-
"why is this happning to me"
"i am anyway a looser...so what can be worst"
"nothing is in my control"
" people are doing this to me"
"i cannot manage without the drug..it makes me happy..it makes me forget what i want"
so when one is working towards de-addiction, one works on not just tapering down the amount of drugs, but also learn the ways of managing cravings, managing thinking patterns and feelings. The context/circumstances of the person are as important as the drug use.
what do you all think?

If briefly...
As there was said earlier addiction are physical and psychological and tolerance.
All drugs are cause psychological addiction and most of them physical.
Psychological addiction caused by particularities of our cells of emotional memory in temporal area.
Addiction depends on kind of drugs.
If it is drugs which based opium (does not matter nature or synthetic) – a molecules of this stuff almost the same on structure as our endorphins (substances which produced by gipotalamus and called “hormones of pleasure”. It is our nature medicine against pain) molecule of drug connects with our receptors in cell of a brain and our organism accepts this molecule like his own hormone of pleasure. And it is first step to addiction. Molecule of drug ‘ve started to participate in process of metabolism. – it is physical addiction.
If it is stimulators. Their action releases from our synapses hormones with big name but like adrenaline. Receptors catches it and nervous system begins work faster. More of them use in psychiatry for mental patients for increasing brain activities and so on they stimulate nervous system but you know what is adrenalin. People want to feel such condition more and more.
About cannabis read higher (THC).
And as for cannabis. I do not agree that is “light drug”. It is policy of world drugs producers that people share drugs on heavy and light. In psychology it is called “the reduce of safety’s level”. But it is other theme. I just say I do not about other countries but in my 8 of 10 drugs-addicts (opium) firstly started their way with cannabis.
As for other hallucinogens the scientists exactly do not know how and why they cause hallucinations and addiction depend on what preparation they use.
I do not sure in correct names of some definitions because I do not find them in vocabulary If somebody interested I’ll try to explain one more.
