Sexual Orientation

Gender inequality practices, especially the scourge of female genital cutting and widowhood practice is a serious threat to the social economic and political development. For reasons both biological and cultural, young women are twice as likely as young men to be affected by HIV and sexually transmitted infections; part of the problem is their inability to negotiate condom use.

lack of ability (especially mental ability) to control sexual decision making,
coercive sex and violence between partners is not uncommon. HIV-positive women were more likely to report coercive sex and less likely to have discussed their test results with their partner. Women with HIV-positive partners were more likely to report being physically abused. Condom use was more common if the man had been previously tested, and if women reported discussing or negotiating condom use. HIV-negative women with untested or seronegative partners were the least likely to use condoms or to discuss or attempt to negotiate condom use.

Sexual orientation is a very complex matter. It's not just the use of condoms or FGM or aids. There's a lot more to it than these striking results.
We have to consider the culture, the practice, religion, education and so on. I don't know much about HIV/AIDS all I know is it's a killer disease that does not only damage to one's immune system but also to one's psychology and spirit. This I mean, how we discrimate people who are infected by the virus.
In my country, it's not much of a talk. It's quite a conservative topic--a taboo. Since we are predominantly Catholic, the use of condoms and contraceptives are not encouraged. The government and the Church would rather stick to the traditional rhythm method, which is not likely to help the problem of HIV/AIDS and over population. Our country is so retrograde when it comes to contraceptives.

The concept of sexual orientation is neither recognized nor accepted in Muslim society or in Islamic doctrine.
"Sexual identity" may be used as a synonym for sexual orientation, but the two are also sometimes distinguished, with identity referring to an individual's conception of themselves, and orientation referring to "fantasies, attachments and longings" and/or behaviour. In addition, "sexual identity" may be used to describe a person's perception of his or her own sex, rather than sexual orientation

Then why, may I ask, with all the information at hand in places like America, London, China, is HIV and AIDS still spreading so rapidly?
If information benefits, is there a min. time allowed for it to benefit us in?
