Will there ever be peace on Earth?

There have been many wars in the world. Will there be many more to come? From the begining of time there has been war, and even now we have some wars. I don't think that peace is going to happen anytime soon, but hopefully in the future there will be no more wars and there will be peace on Earth.

1-3 months of peace, 1-3 years of wars, really it should be the other way around...

World peace is a beautiful ideal that will never be acheived by failible humans.
The problem is that everyone has to agree on the political power structure - rescources must be evenly distributed and ideologies must reconcile when many of them are based on divine revelations which fundamentally disagree.
Getting the whole world to see eye to eye is a monumental task - at some level if it happens for even a few years we should be greatful.

The way I see it, it'll either take some collective threat to humanity (say, a comet coming our way) and/or lots of time until humankind can come even close to seeing eye-to-eye on major issues.
One day we're going to outgrow the Earth, and we're going to have to spread to other planets if the human race will continue to expand. By that time hopefully nations will learn to coexist peacefully... I'm definitely an idealist but boy would I like to be around when we all start to work together and realize that no matter what, we're all part of the same big family!!

cuz everybody is different and have different opinions its definite dat there would be disagreements and thats what start wars. u can't change the way a person is so i don't think there will b total peace on earth but i sure hope there could. if only everyone leaned to cooperate more....more wars mean more ppl dying....

I disagree with the argument that everyone is so different so we'll never stop fighting. No one is going agree with me, and not even I mean this totally. But the world would be a better place if everyone were like Canadians. *shock* Ya, I know I shouldn't have said it, but I did. In my opinion at least we’ve done what so many people say is impossible. Its really very fitting that our leaves turn colours in the fall, because that is what Canada looks like, a perpetual autumn where the leaves never fall from the trees. Some how we live together with people from all over the globe with no expectation that they change, in peace. This is a microcosm of what the world is capable of becoming. We are in actually very similar and stronger together than separate, one day the world’s ignorance will end and people will look out and see, and on that day there will be peace.

You see that is what starts wars - 'If everyone were like the people in my counrty the world would be a better place' - it is a bit egocentric and it doesn't take into account that large portions of Canada are homogenious and have a low population density.
I grew up in Connecticut and everything in my neck of the woods was hunky dory but - the world is not so simple.

WAR!!!!!!!

As history has proven that up to the point i am writing this reply there war has existed and will exist as long as human beings exist..
if define War as evil and Peace as good, then there will always be war and there will be always peace as well because evil and good have to co-exist and there will never be a life where peace will dominate "fully" over war and vice versa and that is the wisdom of creation of earth so everybody has to strive to a better life, hopefully, legally.
now, the matter of how long war or peace lasts is another story..
just to simplify things,
since "greed" and "self interest" are features of the human beings on earth, expect that Peace will not never last forever because the features mentioned above will drive people to bring war to existence.

well written - evil is real, we have all seen it - few can explain it. St. Augustine called it a negative - the absence of good. Often violence is an absence of conscious.
Think that what drives culture to combat and kill eachother is one and the same as what drives an individual to murder. The culture is made up of human beings and each has a world view and a different evaluation of what merits murder.
The strangest thing is that some times this murder is, in a twisted way - logical - because there are other people who are evaluating your death. the world is a dangerous place - and often cruel. If you are not prepared to take anothers life to save your own you could easily die. WW2 had to be fought - because the Nazis brought it on. The allies had to kill the axis.
Not a pretty discussion but then war is not a pretty thing.
The logic of conflict is very real and very twisted -
The more people who focus on life and... people get pulled into wars - people like you or me, who never expected it. Suddenly war comes and finds them.

That is very difficult to answer - neither of us is privy to enough inside info to really make that call - it will certainly encourage animosity - but it they succeed in destroying the weapons technology it will undoubtably set them back a few years - like when Israel took out their nuclear facility.
What were the French doing selling nuclear tech to the Iraqi's ?

Yeah, but in the current war, there wasn't any "bringing it on". It's one thing to wage a war against an entire state infrastructure, when the real target is terrorist groups that don't define themselves by borders...
Do you think that this war will prevent further attacks against the US?
