Youth as a force for change
December 14, 2006 - 07:04 AM

Supporting young people’s participation in decision making processes can benefit society as a whole, since young people are a source of innovative ideas and provide energy for positive change. In this regard, it is extremely important to recognize youth not only as a source of mobilization, but as autonomous actors and partners.”

What role can youth play in helping to bridge cultural divides?

Do you agree that young people are a source of innovative ideas and can be a source for positive change?

What do you think we should do to promote more understanding between the Western and Islamic worlds?

youth is alway an important force in the society in many countries. if the government identify the importance of the youth, that country can quickly develop in the future, for example is Japan.
Youth is an intellectual power, if the country know utilization them, they can benefit for thier country. more and more...
But youth have not ideology for theirselves. So they change easily their idea, if it is no direction.
I think all people know the important of youth, but how does the youth boost their power and use it to benefit for society.
Youth need to be self-confident, enthusiasm, dynamic, active...

Our elders said, as young people we been crying for leadership or management forgetting that we lack the technical skill and experience to manage or lead, but I put to all, experience is the result of first time, until we are given the opportunity to serve, we wont have the experience. Going to the fact that youth are the pillars and future of tomorrow, I therefore agree that youth are the source of innovative ideas and can be a source for positive change should they be given there place over issues that concern development and there tomorrow. Not just to be carry along but should be actively involved in policy making.

As myself, I am a youth, I do would beleive a way to look at this suitation is that eventaully my generation will be running the country, and making decisions and to get our opinions and to get our ideas is not only a benifit to everyone in this day and age but it will only help us become better people when we voice our opinons and people do listen.

I think youth are trully a source of innovative ideas and can be a source of positive change - there are a LOT of people who have subscribed to TakingItGlobal and they all have projects/netwroks which they started themselves and are running in their countries. Now if that is not a youth force at its best, can anybody out there tell me what is?????

Who are the youth? Are they giving the chance to lead? Are they educated? This are some of the issues facing youths in many nations most especially in Africa were I belong. The youth has always not been respected but they are the most vibrant in all spheres of life. In Nigeria the EFCC chairman at 45 stood his ground on battling Financial crime and we are all seeing the result. Though going out of the youth age range but this he was able to start at his youth age in life. Youth can be a force for change only if they are allowed to and if they are educated to have the proper orientation. Lastly Education the youth, the glory of a nation is in her youth, a nation that fails to educate the youth sell her future.

Youth definitely give positive and creative energies especially when they have the desire to change the world for the better. Young leaders and young followers alike should be given a chance to explore all the opportunities available for them.

I agree that we should be part of the decision-making process.

I hope scholarship for the youth will not only be available for the ones who are highly talented and skilled. Education is for all and besides, if we only choose to give the ones who have talent, the more we create the gap for the ones who are not as smart and as talented. Some people are late-bloomers and they get to realize their talents not as immediately as the "smarties."

Some youth are thinkers, some youth are mobilizers, some are thinkers and some are listeners. We should always look for the differences in them and recognize each other's contribution.

Youth who are astray should be given a chance to change and rebuild their lives.

As a youth myself I am often told that many problems America, or the world for that matter will just be dumped onto us, effects of Global Warming, the deficit of the US, and many other things. I hear many adults also say that educating the youth is a key in helping solve future problems. I beleive this, as youth we are ever-open to new ideas, helping out, and giving. Are minds are like a sponge soaking up water, but much of the problem is the water we get. If we soak up filthy, dirty water the sponge will grow dirty and old, but with fresh, pure water we will be healthy and stay young. To utalize the youth I believe that we need to make sure they are getting the most beneficial education possible. That they are learning all the things they need to know. You ask what do we think we can do to bring together Western and Islamic worlds, I say it is educate the youth about eachothers society, and more than that, allow them to interact, write letters, talk online, something that will allow first person interaction for children to really understand eachothers society. Many of what children learn about other cultures is what they see or hear, and it is not always acurate. Overall we, the youth, need to be feed fresh water ensure that we will always have clean, pure minds.
