DOES DECEMBER 25TH REALLY THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST?
December 13, 2006 - 05:41 PM

Ten year ago this month, the magazine U.S.News and world Report featured the cover story in search of christmas. The article offered insight into reasons."There is no record of official observance of christ's birth until the fourth century, when constantine was emperor of Rome. That reflected at least in a part the fact that no one knew for sure when Jesus was born. The article admitted that "the gospels are silent on that year, let alon the exact month or day.
The article considered how the church arrived at December 25.it acknowledged. Most widely held is the view that the holiday was an intentional christianization of saturnalia and other pagan festivals. By assigning christmas to late December, when people already were accustomed to celebrating, church leader ensured widespread observance of the savior's birth.
In the mid 19th century, emphasis shifted to buying and giving gifs. The new tradition of christmas gift giving created an instant retail bonanza, and merchants and advertisers began to promote this season.ONCE AGAIN DOSE DECEMBER 25TH REALLY THE BIRTH OF JESUS CHRIST?

i think its pretty clear consensus that dec 25 has nothing to do with when jesus was actually born.

if you go along with the story, he was born in a manger during a census by rome - likely to not be carried out in the middle of winter!!!

rather it was likely in spring or autumn.

in any case, i don't think it actually matters when or if its his birthday. its become a symbol rather than having any relationship to fact.

isn't that what religion is about anyway? symbols and faith? facts don't seem to have much to do with it.

Jesus (pbuh)is commonly considered to have been born on December 25th..However, it is common knowledge among christian scholars that he was not born on this day..It is well known that first Christian churches held their festival in January,April or May..and scholars of the first 2 centuries AD even
differ in which year he was born..Some believing that he was born a full 20 years before the current accepted date..
So how was the 25th December selected as the birthday of Jesus(pbuh).Christmas is the feast of the birth of Jesus(pbuh)..Despite beliefs about christ that the birth stories expressed..the church did not observe a festival for the celebration until the 4th century. In the eastern church,January 6th a day also associated with winter solstice, was initially preferred. In course of time, however, the west added the eastern date as The Feast of Epiphany..and the East added the western date of Christmas..Gods believed to have been born on this day were as follows:Buddah..Mithras(persian god)..Horus(egyptian god)..Hercules(the son of the god Zeus)
Freyr(Scandanavian..son of their supreme god,Odin)and the roman god of the sun..Natalis Solice was also born on this day..I'm amazed...*

Peace for you
nice study shorty
in east the date is 7th January
but Quraan came to explain some hidden facts and stories
if we notice this verse:Surah Maryam
Ayah [23]
And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a date-palm. She said: "Would that I had died before this, and had been forgotten and out of sight!"
so what is the real date
when you can eat date palm in the east ?
we can discuss
so please send from different countries especially palestine when the date crop begin and last
it will be good scientific discussion using science and mind
salam (peace)

My findings indicates that dates are ripe and ready to eat around the end of Autumn Equinox..which is towards the end of September.Therefore..Jesus(pbuh) was more than likely born around that period or early October..I will update as i find out more..smile

Right now I have no academic evidence to present, but I read somewhere -will look for the source- that it is believed that Jesus was born precisely in the night of winter solstice, and that the date has moved throughout the years to December the 25th.

Thanx for help
it is very nice to read more and help
I read in a book about prophets stories that the date palm tree was dry and by miracle from Allah it gave dates when Merry (Meriam) ws ordered to shake it (another miracle that she was giving birth and very weak and shaked the tree)
In Quraan , it was mentioned the meaning that she was ordered to shake the trunk of the c=date palm to eat and drink (the juice of soft date
The date palm tree (The here means specific known tree)
if any one want the story of the birth and Meriam the purified woman who was promised to enter paradise (Jannah) please send to me in TIG or post
salam

If we read the bible, it says that the shepherds are out, this means that it's more likely that Jesus was born in Summer.

Yuletide season (Dec 20-23) or the Winter Solstice is actually a pagan celebration. As we know, the then New Religion, or Christianity, tried to get rid of the Old Religion. The New Religion tried to adapt and change the old traditions and rituals into their own. There is actually a pagan God who was born during this time, I can't remember who.

If you watch Harry Potter, even if it's a little bit about "witchcraft", there is also a celebration of Christmas. The writer is not wrong in adding the details of Christmas as Yule is an important time in Witchcraft.
