Save the earth, stop having children. What do you think??

Humanity is quickly turning our planet into a wasteland. We all agree that we need to go "green" but, continue to flush turds down the toilet. Ecology will always take a backseat to economics. Why dont we just all stop procreating and give the planet and it's wildlife a chance to recover?? We could hand out free Ipods to anyone willing to undergo a vasectomy.

... a reduction in the world's population is not a bad move... illuminati probably meant that. Not stopping procreation altogether, but reducing the number of children couples have.

Have you analyze the future impact? You are thinking the win-lose situation, which is not good solution. Try to explore the causes of population growth and have to work for that. We can learn from the China also.

My dear cougars (Kittycat) micah,
Perhaps you have not noticed, but we humans are already on a self destructive genocidal path. In order to minimize wars, human suffering, wildlife extinction, global warming, pollution and endless other attrocities, we MUST minimize the human population to the point where our impact on the planet is reduced significantly. The world would be a better place... If we could just get rid of most humans. Most parents are doing a poor job of raising their children.

I think maybe you should go and live on the moon ..that'll be one less on earth*Where does it state that most parents are doing a bad job of raising their children? Most as in what percentage of the world? Give me some facts and I might think differently about your statement..Until then..I think it's ridiculous..*

Dear shorty667, Angie, You ask for proof that most parents are doing a bad job of raising their children? Ok, Just look at the state of things on this planet. We are on a fast track to destroying ourselves because of ingnorance and neglect. Most Kids are wasting their lives playing video games and watching TV. Juvenile crime is at an all time high. I hope you are spending more quality time educating your own children and less time surfing the internet. Oh yes, I would love to visit the moon one day, thanks for the invite darling...

I hope two adults (and I do welcome you) do not give an textbook exemplar of "getting personal" to argue a point. That would not be productive.
Increased population size has many dire consequences including
1) Increased population density, which increases probably of disease spread and also increases proximity to other animals (increasing interspecies spread of disease) and also decreasing the habitats of other animals and life forms
2) Increased need of resources - depletes those reservoirs of food, clean water, materials for shelter, energy etc.
3) Increased production of wastes
It doesn't help that the average person in the "developed" world is consuming in far excess than they need and producing much more waste than can be sustained.
Population reduction may be one way of reducing some of these problems, but there are serious ethical and moral issues concerning placing a "cap" on the number of children allowed per family. And not to forget the logistical problems of split/merged families, etc. Perhaps it is about educating people to modify their ways of living and perhaps understand the implications of bringing children into this world.
Regarding raising children - well I don't have the stats, but we can probably agree that a significant proportion of parents are NOT doing a good job. But that's not to say that there is also a significant proportion who are doing GREAT jobs. How can these great parents share their skills, expertise and resources with those parents not so well endowed with "parenting"?
That's all I have to say right now.
Thanks.

Stop having children?
No way!
Have we simply forgotten that people are the real assets of any nation?
People are vital for all the development of any nation. Yes it is true that the more people we have, the more waste there is..but it is also true that the more people we have, the more development we can do...and that includes reducing waste.

I think it is more of responsible parenthood. Meaning, if you cannot provide a good life to your children, then don't make it bad for them.

We must realise that the current population growth cannot go on, the world is not capable of handling that. I think we should have a look at the one-child rules in China. There are indeed many atrocities deriving from the one-child politics, but I think the idea is not a bad idea. We should try to find out how to effectively reduce the population or at least stop population growth to a certain amount.

I agree with what Cherrie has said above. And it is a well known fact that population growth has to slow down if we are going to have any chance of creating a sustainable future for the world in the long term.
world population, since 1900 until the present day, has more than doubled, and in fact has tripled (I think, but don't quote me on that!) I know that it as not all that long ago when the world population was just one billion people, and nowwe are on our way of reaching 7 billion people.
It's not a matter of not having children, however. From what i can see, in the Global South at least, many families have many children purely for the fact that more children mean more hands to help with the families livelyhood. Not thatthese parents don't love their childre, but it is also a fact of survival.
There are a multitude of problems that need to be addressed before the rate of growth in the world population can be slowed, but it has to be slowed in order to create a sustainable future worldwide. there are simply not enough resources to cope with the current growth of the world population in the long term. Thats my 20 cents anyway!

Not having children will not help our planet cause one of the babies being born could be the next Albert Einsteine.
