UN appeals for Palestinian funds

The United Nations has launched an appeal to raise $450m (£229m) in humanitarian relief funds for the Palestinian territories next year.
Two-thirds of Palestinians live in poverty, a UN spokesman said.
The Palestinian economy has been in crisis since international sanctions were imposed on the Hamas-led government earlier this year.

Interesting, but I have hard time not being sceptical about any expected result of this appeal.
I can only presume that as long as there is not a unity government, or, in other words, Hamas is at helm of the Palestinian government, there might not be any humanitarian aid increase. Most of aid agencies and humanitarian groups, which might possibly contribute are located in the EU and the US; the government of both imposed economic sanctions on the Hamas government.
Unless there is some way around these sanctions or the UN awaits some Arab and Muslims govermments and aid groups to contribute, I don't think the effort is worth a trial.

The UN has a name to uphold. It has to do something, or at least to show that it is doing something.
As things stand now, I wouldn't much bet on the UN procuring its sought funds.
This is a rather symbolic geste, given the current geopolitical situation of the region....unless, as you said, some rich Arabs decide to contribute in..

yes it will help, but it won't solve the financial problem though. as long as Hamas still insist of admitting Israel, problems are always there.
well, atleast it can help keeping the Palestinians alive--for now.
